Gothic III

Post by Cyrus »

So I finally got this game knowing what absurd system requirements it has, but I figured I could run it decently on medium settings, man was I wrong. At first when I started it up I set it to max quality everything at 1280x1024 and it lagged like no tomorrow right off the bat.

Worst part is that it doesn't even run properly, the NPCs right at the start have a black box around them which flickers, so I can see the NPCs are behind them.

Even set to min settings those black boxes are still flickering around them, and still lags a bit even at 1024x768. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this black box glitch?

The last time I saw anything similar was actually on Project 64 while running OOT, anything that wasn't supported appeared as a black box. But in this case I'm pretty sure everything which is manditory is supported. The only thing which my video card doesn't support is shader model 3 which can be changed in the option settings to 2 or 1.4.

Anyway my specs:
CPU: AMD64 Semp @ 2.35GHz
RAM: 1GB OCZ DDR400
GPU: Radeon AIW X800 XT @ 550MHz (Core) / 1160MHz (RAM)
OS: XP Pro SP2

Looks like I figured it out on my own. The problem seemed to be a lack of RAM, I increased the AGP aperture size from 256MB to 512MB and it runs just dandy now. I suppose that means on low settings this game uses more than 512MB of video memory, and I thought the GeForce 8s were overkill, bah.
