ZSNES - Onetouch conflict

Post by Dragn »

Greetings everyone,

I have a problem running ZSNES on my notebook; it's a HP Pavilion, it has a number of buttons at the top of the keyboard with which you can instantly launch programs such as a browser & and email client. I've never used them before because they are rather useless, the quick launch bar is way faster. The notebook allows you to assign any program to the keys though, and I was thinking of making a small program that would enable tv mode, launch joytokey and zsnes at the same time and assign it to one of the buttons.

The problem is, in order for the keys to work an application needs to be running in the background (onetouch.exe), and I just found out that when it does, zsnes doesn't want to run in fullscreen. It works fine in windowed mode, but when I try to switch to fullscreen, the screen goes black for a moment and then reverts to windowed mode. Anyone any idea why this might be? I can't think of any possible connection :)

The default fullscreen resolution that is used initially by ZSNES is 640x480. More likely than not, that resolution is not supported by your laptop, hence it fails horribly.

It is suggested you select a fullscreen resolution that works in Config->Video menu. ZSNES stores the last successful fullscreen res so when you hit the fullscreen button at the upper right hand corner, it will use that resolution.

I hope that helps you.

No, I only have the problem when onetouch is running; if I terminate it I can switch to fullscreen mode (with res 640x480)

Why not sidestep the issue and just put that program, a simple batch file should work, and put it on the quick launch bar?

Other than that, all I can think of is making sure the HP software is up-to-date. I'll give it a try on my HP notebook (Pavilion ze4700) and see if I get the same problem, but I don't normally run ZSNES on it and I never installed the onetouch program.

Unless it's part of another download, the onetouch driver isn't listed on my notebook's download page. TweakUI, available for free from Microsoft, should do exactly what you want, though. You can customize the buttons on any multimedia keyboard, including the buttons on my notebook, to launch any program.

Also, why are you using joy2key? ZSNES supports almost any joystick/gamepad/controller that uses DirectInput and that will probably work better than joy2key.

Alright thx, I'll give it a shot. I suppose I could do that, but I was thinking of adding a little boot animation with Nintendo appearing, like the one in mario kart. With that and the act of pressing a button, it would make it seem as if I actually started up a super nintendo :P
I think I used joytokey to be able to select save states with my gamepad, not sure though. It''s been a while :)

With some of the later ZSNES WIPs, you should be able to do that directly without a 3rd party program. http://zsnes.ipherswipsite.com
