Dragon Quest IX To Be a Nintendo DS EXCLUSIVE.

Agree. The DS speaker is tinny, but as soon as you rig up some headphones or speakers, the music is really good in many games. The sound hardware of the DS is greatly superior to the GBA.Firon wrote:Also casualsax3, the DS has some great music capabilities. Just hook it up to your stereo and you can enjoy the music more.

so the ds lacks the processor power to contain an epic story with good combat and well-developed characters? can the cart simply not hold a good atmosphere? does it lack the RAM?It will end up being a great game for the DS, but there is no fucking way that you can tell me it's possible to create a superior RPG experience on a handheld.
or is that what you think an rpg is? cause it sounds like a cop-out to me.I'd rather have it on a console that I can play on my TV at home that's hooked up to my nice stereo, so I can enjoy the awesome music that a fucking console can offer.

It's good, but it's not great, and it's limited by the media. The DS can't do Xenosaga's soundtrack - which was CD quality Mitsuda conducting the fucking London Philharmonic. Wake me up when the DS can do that.Clements wrote:Agree. The DS speaker is tinny, but as soon as you rig up some headphones or speakers, the music is really good in many games. The DS sound hardware is only good, not great - and music is just another reason why I'd rather see the next DQ on a console. Did any of you listen to the incredible music in Dragon Quest 8? Go listen to it again. Now check this out - it's synthesized - not recorded.or is that what you think an rpg is? cause it sounds like a cop-out to me.I'd rather have it on a console that I can play on my TV at home that's hooked up to my nice stereo, so I can enjoy the awesome music that a fucking console can offer.
You're being silly, and putting words in my mouth. The DS is more than capable of having a good story line - it's just going to be presented better on a PS2 - hands down.sweener2001 wrote:so the ds lacks the processor power to contain an epic story with good combat and well-developed characters? can the cart simply not hold a good atmosphere? does it lack the RAM?

i'm pretty sure that cd quality sound not being present is going to detract from the experience. the shiniest graphics won't take away from the experience.
if the story rocks, the combat is fun, and characters intriguing, that's all you really need. dragon quest isn't like elder scrolls, where the graphics are a selling point.
i'm just pretty sure that if you honestly believe that the audio/visual alone makes the experience truly great, you're out of touch.

I seem to recall there being excellent Dragon Quest games on the NES and the SNES. And DQ7 could have fit on the N64 if they really wanted to, it wasn't that complex (although it was long as hell). The DS is a perfect fit for the series, as it has never been about graphics.
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

Explain to me how if you have a Dragon Quest on two platforms, and one has better graphics, better character models, better artwork, better sounding music, great cinematography, and awesome voice acting, you wouldn't prefer that one. It's almost like you're arguing that good design elements and execution don't make a better game.sweener2001 wrote:i'm just pretty sure that if you honestly believe that the audio/visual alone makes the experience truly great, you're out of touch.

More like "It's almost like you're arguing that good audiovisual design elements and execution don't necessarily make a better game."casualsax3 wrote:It's almost like you're arguing that good design elements and execution don't make a better game.
Such elements may help (ie, not required to) on the immersion, but taht's all. The lack of them a game inferior does not make.
Which is why I stand upon Earthbound's greatness. Then again, that game is a contradiction on its own. More on that later.

I'd reply to that, if I hadn't already, maybe you read past it:casualsax3 wrote:Explain to me how if you have a Dragon Quest on two platforms, and one has better graphics, better character models, better artwork, better sounding music, great cinematography, and awesome voice acting, you wouldn't prefer that one. blackmyst wrote:Er, I think you sorta missed what I meant there. I compared DQIX to LA in the way that they're both installments in a major series that got "demoted" to a technically much inferior system (4 shades of gray? hah). Yet LA turned out great, better in many ways than its predecessor. Don't see why this can't happen with DQIX.

No, I saw that and responded to it. I'm not arguing that it's not going to be an awesome game - I am arguing that Dragon Quest 8 would not have been so supremely awesome if it was on the DS and not the PS2.blackmyst wrote:I'd reply to that, if I hadn't already, maybe you read past it:blackmyst wrote:Er, I think you sorta missed what I meant there. Well you responded to another post, but anyway...I still think you're kinda missing the point. Yes, if they just ported DQ8 to the DS it would be a worse game. Similarly, if they had just ported aLttP to the Gameboy as is, it would have been a worse game also. But they didn't! They made LA.
See where I'm going?
