Speed booting

Post by darkbenny »

Ok guys, let's hear what your boot speeds are in Win XP!

I've got mine down to 27 seconds after disabling a few un-needed services and using bootvis.

sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

from the second I press the power button:

20 seconds later the bios is done
35 seconds later the XP logon screen shows
30 seconds later the hour glass goes away and I consider it loaded up

so I'd say 1 minute and 28 seconds after I hit the power button it's fully usable.

it seems AVG takes a while to load...

it sounds to me like my boot time is 4-5 times longer than your guys's. I could say that my penis is 27 inches long, but that was just this one time when it got caught in my buddie's car door and he drove off, so it's not realistic.

yeah I have some old shit in my pc, but are you guys counting the bios in this time frame? are you counting the second the desktop shows up or when it's all settled down and ready? cause boot time is nothing to brag about, but it sounds like "eboot time" to me. get a stop watch and press the power button on your pc then wait for the hard drive light to stop blasting. that's boot time!

if I was inclined, I count from when I hit enter at the GRUB prompt, until all the icons stop loading on my sys tray.

bios: 14 seconds
windows logon screen: 1 minute 1 seconds.
fully booted: 1 minute 32 seconds.

Something that slows it down a lot is that when after the xp loading screen is done the screen goes blank and stays that way for maybe 40 seconds before the logon screen pops up and I have no idea what is causing it.

No. Since I got a new computer I had to reformat and didn't bother with these registry tweaks. All I've done now is to set the swapfile fixed at 2048Mb. so Its not that.. Could it be a driver for a USB device or sth? because I had the same porblem with my old pc too.

My pc doesn't even boot at all. Need a new power supply, and my laptop has a key that sticks every once in a while, making the boot take a lot of time.

Yeah, I might need to give them some maintenance.
