Seiken Densetsu 3 (and others) crash in 1.42n

Post by Tallgeese »

Right.

I was playing Seiken Densetsu 3 over netplay using 1.42n, patched to English of course (so alas the ROM won't appear in NSRT). After awhile, the game would freeze. This wasn't too bad, as mysteriously it was possible to save the state and open it, and the game would resume normally.

However, after awhile of this, ZSNES crashed at a black screen when we tried to netplay load the ROM, with the classic error message. Interestingly, it did NOT crash if we loaded the ROM outside of netplay.

This behavior is also observed when using the Secret of Evermore 2 player hack, but it loads fine on 1.36 netplay... pity it randomly hard freezes and save states don't save it.

Further, all forms of Super Mario All-Stars black-screen crash on netplay in 1.42n, but not in 1.36.

I'm pretty sure specs aren't really relevant here since we load the ROMs outside of Netplay fine. I'd be grateful if anyting knows a solution to all this... or if 1.337 works with no freezes and so on.

I've already tried all combinations of the Save Ram options, including None. SD3 for example black screens anyway.

I can honestly tell you that I haven't been able to play a decent netplay game on 1.42n as well. Secret of Evermore 2 player hack on 1.36 is the best to play it on even though it randomly freezes at some points it's still the best zsnes to play it on. Even though Secret of Evermore may have random freezes, I should have played the original version of it which tends to have no freezes coincedently. As for some of the japanese rpgs, I'd probably play them in 1.36 instead of 1.42n as 1.42n tends to crash alot when i tried in netplay.
