Annoying problem with NES emulation

Post by Ratty »

In side scrolling games such as SMB and Megaman, the edge of the screen in the direction I'm moving flashes and flickers whenever it scrolls. This happens in every NES emulator I've tried. This only happens in side scrollers. So LoZ has no problems whatsoever, but the side scrolling parts of Zelda II do for example.

It can't be my computer as I can run SNES games with all the high end settings and they work fine. I doubt it's the roms because I've verified them all with GoodNES.

Any ideas on what's wrong?

It's the ROMs (even the good ones). They assumed that you couldn't see those areas on TVs.

FCE Ultra has an option to clip these columns, dunno about others.

I found the option and it works great! Thanks a lot!

Not sure why it isn't set like that by default though.

It'll cause problems with some games. Check out the "core" in the upper-left corner of Castlevania for instance.

NES emulation today is accuracy oriented so all the errors that are inside a ROM will be left out in emulation.
Yes I know that my grammar sucks!
