JMA Question

Post by Player1 »

I like to convert some roms with IPS patches to a jma archive and some roms nsrt don't recognize.

Is it possible to make a an custom jma archive? I want to do this because the IPS patches have a very good compression ratio.

I asked long before for an IPS switch, to turn automatic IPS patches of, for example I have compressed the IPS patches with the rom. If I want to run the rom unpatched way I have to make a new file that doesn't contain the IPS file. In my eyes that would be contra produktive, because you don't save disk space, its rather the opposite, you have to make more copies of the same file.

I know the developers have much to do, I just request to put this on the to do list with low priority.

Sorry, its a bit off topic what I would write. I don't want to argue, so please take it as suggestion and don't flame me.

Or better yet! turn JMA into a stand alone tool that can compress any type of file making 7Zip completely useless. Nach will be so famous.

How fast is NSRT's JMA implementation compared to 7zip and other compression algorithm implementations?

JMA is more tuned towards optimal compression for a specific type of data, and not as a general compressor.
Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?

- Yes, but don’t change the subject.

I'm fairly sure that it would compress everything in the same way that 7-ZIP does, apart from SNESSY type things.

I do wish that NSRT allowed for arbitrary JMA compression instead of only processing ROMs with good checksums...

I have some "bad" ROMs (patched, hacked, translated) that I still want to hold on to, but they're SMC files while the rest of my ROMs are JMA.

You can use the -renext command. Or in the frontend, select "Extensions Only" in the naming tab, then select JMA in the saving tab.

a last question: Will NSRT be further developed? I think the last version was released a year ago

If you look at Nach's sig, you will see that this is not the case.

I'm pretty sure "final" used in this instance actually means "non-beta"... not "no new updates".

Yes that's what it means, NSRT 3.4 or 4.0 will be out when it's ready.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

Can I ask what your plans for 3.4/4.0 are?

You can ask, you won't get a response though. Suffice it to say though, I got cool stuff in the pipeline, I won't know when each will be finished though.

I wasn't trying to say that it was the final one, what I was trying to say was that it hadn't been over a year since the last public release. Sorry I wasn't very clear.
