ZSNES rocks, how about you recommend me a nes emulator?

Post by gorgar »

Hello all,
Zsnes is awesome... I run it on my mame arcade from the Mamed interface, and its the coolest thing since sliced bread. It runs in full screen, saves perfectly, never messes up. The sound is a little funky for me but i haven't tried to troubleshoot that.

Anyways, I'm hoping someone has a suggestion for a NES emulator that works as well as zsnes? I've tried ines, nestra, etc and none of them like to run from my mamed interface. I exec mamed from /etc/X11/xinit/Xclient before the graphical windows ever gets launched, so it's a perfect way to make the game seem like a full screen mame arcade. However when i try programs like ines nestra etc they dont like to work, or they dont do full screen.

Thanks in advance!

FakeNes because Nestopia is not very portable. But for Windows I use Nestopia.

It's a little crackly.. the sound on zsnes that is. I've never troubleshot it because i was too busy playing zelda. :) After listening to it for a few minutes you forget about the crackle.

There's a z-NES too??? omg.

I'll give fakenes a better shot. I've been frustrated with a few others and fakenes threw a bunch of errors when i tried to make install so, i gave up too soon.

You all do realize that the op is asking for an NES emulator that supports Linux....

Errr... No. I guess the "I exec mamed from /etc/X11/xinit/Xclient" gives it away, but I didn't pay close attention.

Nestopia is portable. There is already a Linux port, although it is still in early stages.

Requirements Building it
  • With make:
    Just run make, obviously. ;)
  • Without make:
Run './cbuild.c' from a Unix shell or compile and run CBuild yourself.
If CBuild fails, drop me a line at randilyn@users.sourceforge.net.

Optional packages ---
As you can see, it uses a custom build system (not make), so `make install' wouldn't work anyway. :P

Unless you would like to request such a feature? Because nobody has. :P

Nesticle FTW
seriously though, what happened to that one? It used to be like, the most popular NES emulator, and possibly the best. Did they just stop updating it?

It'd also been surpassed by other emulators at that time.
