You'll need to upgrade.
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... bsetup.exe
If that doesn't work, http://www.microsoft.com/directx

List of files needed for DX8?
In Win98SE at least, windows opend DLLs in the local directory in preference to the system directory. Previous the Win port gave specific errors on which file was missing, but now it just says "install DX8".
Is it possible to get a list of files needed for zsnesw to run? And if so somewhere to download the said files into Zsnesw's directory

I never found the need to install directx 9, and most likely won't.
Unless I eventually want to run GSdx9, of course.
The number of people who get 'Failed to import dsound.dll:directsoundcreate8' despite having DX9.0c installed is so high I'm really tempted to ditch this version in the sewer.
DX was famous for its reverse compatibility, until this version. Maybe zsnes uses some special magic that makes dx9 unable to comply, nevertheless that's not a good point in my book.

Never said everybody using DX9 had this problem. Most people here on the board have dx9 and never experienced this trouble.
But more than 20 people did. That's too many to be a simple issue.

I have Windows XP, Service Pack 2 and DirectX 9.0..
But it still says "Failed to import dsound.dll" AND "Sorry, you need a DirectX version or 8.0 or higher"
The weird thing is.. I've used the emulator before, then I didn't for like a half year, and now it says that when I try to start it..
Can anyone please help?

First, make sure you have the latest version of ZSNES. Version 1.51 came out not too long ago. Download from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... p_id=19677
Second, you get the award for longest thread resurrection in a while.

Goto http://www.microsoft.com/directx and usually it is the first download available there.Shilag wrote:Hmm.. I've reinstalled DirectX a few times without success.
But I don't get what you guys mean by the "Web Updater"..

The only other thing that comes to mind is that you do not want select "Use Primary Buffer". Also, try updating your sound drivers and make sure it is set to use Full Acceleration (or one notch before that).
There is also the possibility some app is holding your sound card hostage (such as Winamp) that can prevent use of your sound card for ZSNES.
If worse comes to worse, try the DX uninstaller (go google for this), then reinstall DX9.
