It just wont install

Post by FistOfFury »

The demo of FL Studio (version 7) just refuses to install on my computer. I keep getting one of two errors, either this:

or this:
Image

It installs fine on the computer downstairs. Same exact shit with a full cracked FL Studio 6. Version 5 cracked installs fine on my computer, but I don't want it because it's missing stuff and I want to try a newer version. I was going to buy the full version but I'm not going to even bother if there's a chance it won't even install. And I remember getting the same error a while ago when trying to install Winamp. I found out both use NSIS installer, but I can't really find any info on their forums that fixes my problem. The only difference between my comp and the one downstairs is the different hardware, obviously, and it uses XP SP1, where mine is SP2. Don't tell me that's it...I'm not wasting my time to put SP1.

I've tried deleting the folders that the install program makes. I've tried clearing out temp folders. I've tried using another hard drive and using different user accounts. I've tried re-downloading the file again and again, from multiple mirrors even. I've tried downloading the setup file on the other computer downstairs, burning it to a CD and using that to install. Nothing.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance...

Disable all software that runs on startup and disable any firewall and anti-virus suites you have running, including norton ass

Then try again

The only anti-virus I have is Avast, but that's been disabled. Same thing with XP Firewall. I forgot to mention that this happened with Windows 2k too.

Here's my process list:

I don't have anything in Start --> Startup. Here's my msconfig startup:

Raconfig2500 is my network card's connection utility, I tried disabling that and no difference. Same thing for "ctfmon.exe" and "dumprep," whatever they're for.

edit: I've been scanning for malware with Spybot, Adaware, and CWShredder and they never find anything.

the only obvious thing is its getting corrupted some how.

how exactly are you getting this onto your machine, can you copy it from your other machine?

the problem here is obvious: you own an ipod. you are a trend whore hippy fuck who doesn't know how to use computers. please purchase an apple computer so you don't need to worry yourself with things such as software and problems with software.

just kidding, follow funkyass's's advice and download a checksum program and get the hash of the original file (might be posted on their website for 100% assurance. check windows update, maybe there's a newer windows installer? how about trying to install in safe mode, that's gotta work!

Is it a possibility that earlier cracked versions are fucking things up?

LOL @ ipod

K, let's see. Safe mode didn't work. It looked like it was maybe gonna install but then it crashed about halfway at the file extraction phase (after you hit the Install button). I tried running Memtest for an hour while I was in Safe Mode and it didn't find any errors. I'm going to try running it all day tomorrow while I'm at work.

I'm getting the demo program by going to the official site:
http://flstudio.com/ ---> 'Download free FL Studio Trial', which redirects to Tucows download mirrors. I compared the MD5 hash from Tucows with the setup file I download and they're both identical. I already tried downloading from the downstairs computer and burning it onto CD and using that to install, but that makes no difference either.

Let's see...I already tried updating Installer before I made this topic and it didn't fix anything. Already been trying the browser cache. And I don't have any previous versions of FLStudio installed. The last time I did, it was version 5, which was several months ago in Windows 2k. I'm on XP now, with a new hard drive.

Automatic updates and Windows Update makes no difference either. I'm about to give up, and send a big "Fuck You" to Nullsoft Installer and FL, haha j/k. Maybe later if I get bored enough I'll try randomly turning on and off some services in the services control panel.

how did you run memtest from within windows? dont you boot from a cd? if yes then doesnt that mean that nothing to do with windows will affect memtest?

if he was smart, he would've downloaded memtest86 on his other computer, then booted off of it.

It only has one stick, 512MB PC133, Infineon. Why, I don't know, I didn't build this computer. But I tried switching the stick to another slot, and did some spring cleaning while I was at it by removing all the dust buildup inside the comp.

I have Memtest from here: http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ and I ran it in Safe Mode, not off a CD. I'll try booting with memtest86 instead, thanks.

Was I supposed to turn off Level 1 and 2 CPU cache in the bios before running memtest86? I didn't, and ran memtest with default settings for 10 hours and like 18 passes and it didn't find any errors.
