Diagonals in Key Combinations
I'm sure this is around somewhere, but it's bugging me and searching isn't getting me much of anywhere. Specifically, I'm looking to make key combinations for Sabin's blitzes in FF3(6). I can get most of them on the keyboard but the more complex ones (i.e. bum rush) defeat my fingers on the little arrow keys. Thus, I thought key combinations would come to the rescue but I can seem to make it do diagonals. Any blitz without diagonals (i.e. suplex) works fine, but other ones do not.
I've been using a 2 frame delay in between keys but since a diagonal is the pressing of two keys at once it doesn't seem to be happening. Any help?

I'm not sure what you mean. If I hold left and down at the same time, then it recognizes that as motion in a southwest direction. I've tried telling the key combination to press (no release) left and down and then to release (no press) left and down to create the key combination but that hasn't seemed to work.
For example, here's a combination I tried to write for the Fire Dance blits (left, left/down, down, right/down, right):

You can see that I'm trying to press left and down at the "same" time and then release them after that so that a "diagonal" option is pressed.

I think what Agozer meant to say was that, while the rest of FF3/6 uses diagonals (the airship for instance), Sabin's Blitzes don't actually recognise them (noting the fact that, yes, diagonals on the SNES, and on every other conventional controller ever, are simply two directions pressed at the same time). The Blitz moves don't look for the two directions pressed together, but for some kind of sequence. I don't remember precisely what it did, somebody else might tell you more.

I'm having a problem with the blitzes also. I searched (how else could I find a thread that's over a year old?) but couldn't find anything. I have wasd for direction and the arrow keys as abxy. When walking, I can move to the right using D and even during battles, I can select different enemies/items/whatnot with wasd, but when I'm inputting a blitz sequence, D registers as the A button and submits my blitz. The only one I've gotten to work so far is the suplex. I've also used a ps2 controller connected through a usb adapter and it works perfectly; pummel, suplex, etc.
I wouldn't have even said anything, but I don't always have the controller available and need the keyboard. Plus, it's really bothering me.

That combination is like a terrible idea. You would be better served using the Insert/Delete/Home/End/PgUp/PdDown keys for the buttons if you must do it that way.Rabid Dachshund wrote:I have wasd for direction and the arrow keys as abxy.
Possible instances that you have configured the keys improperly:
1) Player 2 is enabled. Disable it.
2) You are using Misc->Key Comb instead of Config->Input to configure the keys.

Pure and total awesomeness. Player 2's default for button A is D. Disabled, fixed.
I've never heard of wasd being a bad idea. What's so bad about it? I'm using a logitech wireless keyboard, so my insert/etc configuration is different and it would be extremely awkward to try to use that. Besides, I've been playing console games for so long, I'm used to up/down/left/right being on the left side of the controller and the other buttons on the right. Anything else is just a distraction from the game.

I speak of experience. I got used to the arrow keys being the directional pad and ASDZXC keys to be LXARYB. The general logical positioning for a std 104-key keyboard if you really wanted it would be the area w/Insert,Del,Pgup, etc. so they are placed in relatively logical positions (except for L+R, but some non-Nintendo SNES gamepads add another set of L+R buttons next to the X+A buttons, looking more like a Genesis controller).Rabid Dachshund wrote:Pure and total awesomeness. Hm, interesting. To each his own, I guess. Thanks for the help. As long as I'm here, I noticed that games don't load from a flash drive. Is there any reason for this? Am I doing it wrong? Any speculation on adding it as a feature, thereby making the whole thing portable? I use different computers in different locations, but I've always got a flash drive with me. Being able to run it from that would double the awesomeness and possibly make me tantric.

It should "just work". I'm not sure what port or version you are using, but if it is Windows, make sure there is an actual drive letter assigned to it.Rabid Dachshund wrote:Hm, interesting.
