About saving again...
Not really related to the question i asked before. I can't quite remember how games like donkey kong countyry and super mario world actually save.....do they auto-save after a level is completed or will i have to complete a whole stage? I ask this because it's not saving every level....

DKC+SMW have designated save methods. In the case of DKC, you goto Candy's Save Point. In SMW, the game asks you to save when the following are beaten:
Switch Palaces
Castle
Fortress
Ghost House
Ghost Ship
Every other "Special World" level.

Back in my day, games didn't even save at all! Not that the games had an ending to reach anyways...

For a thought, the only SMW game on the SNES that auto-saved was Yoshi's Island. None of the DKC series on the SNES auto-saved.
I don't recall many SNES games doing any form of auto-saving anyways. It was almost always user initiated.

Since this thread's already derailed I may aswell ask.
Do all games use SRAM with a battery or did some come with EEPROMS or some other type of storage? When I get another SNES, I know I'd rather replace a battery then desolder EEPROMS when they run out of write cycles. Some of the carts I saw PCBs of had a battery but I can't be sure from that.
Further derailment: Racing games (should) always save your best times automatically. Atleast I know SMK and Stunt Race do.

All SNES games that had a save feature had battery backed RAM
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
