well you get the human girl first, before the sprite, is he referring to a battle with both of them, or only the girl?
Man you guys beat me to it, I was going to mention the healing and the fact that there was only person in the mantis battle. The game gets very easy when you realize that you can just get your girl to cast attack magic on the enemy repeatedly and the enemy can't move because when the first magic animation finishes you have already started the second spell etc.
That basically broke the game as far as difficulty.
As for Dawn of Mana, most of the mana team moved to Browny Brown, who are the ones that did the GBA and now DS mana games, no matter how much they suck, a lot of the team are the same people, the director seems to be on crack though, at least the art is still decent, I didn't mind Sword of Mana that much but it seems to have gone downhill from there.
I'm going to resist being a cynic though and still have hope with every new game, it is hard now though, I've given up hope on Sonic Team awhile ago, and I'm losing faith in Rare and internal Square-Enix (they still publish many talented studios such as Level 5 etc. but the main Final Fantasy series seems to be going downhill)
a lot of this has to do with the main leaders leaving the studios of all three of those companies, not that there are not plenty of talented people left. But I'm interested in what Mistwalker and Prope have to offer and hope that the brothers that founded Rare will make their own new company too, the makers of Goldeneye and Perfect Dark have already had Free Radical for awhile.

Well... from what I saw these last years, one thing they would probably change is the complete random produces of eq (and ????) seeds.Deathlike2 wrote:[SD3] should be ported, if not just to have an official translation. The game doesn't need to have another set of ultimate equipment because that is a sure way to add stupidity to an almost balanced game.
I mean, kids these days can't be assed to play for more than 2 hours without beating a game, so if they remake it they're gonna remove all that rather tedious part where you spend hours in your team-specific dungeons killing demons/dragons/ninjas to get enough seeds for your needs.
Oh well, who cares about sucky ports, the originals won't disappear.
About adding "ultimate" eq, that would be stupid, since the seeds already are that ultimate eq. I usually get an ultimate set for the mid-class and end-class of each char in my team, for kicks. (using the poto trick, cheats are for dummies)

I guess. It is an easy tweak to just drop them in earlier levels... though I'm not entirely sure if the drop frequency directly correlate with levels though (I think it does to some degree).grinvader wrote:Well... from what I saw these last years, one thing they would probably change is the complete random produces of eq (and ????) seeds.Deathlike2 wrote:[SD3] should be ported, if not just to have an official translation. Exactly.Oh well, who cares about sucky ports, the originals won't disappear.
Never heard of the poto trick, but getting the mid-class ultimate equipment... that's crazy.About adding "ultimate" eq, that would be stupid, since the seeds already are that ultimate eq. The thing I'd like to see in a remake of SD3 is a new series of events between the recovery of the Mana Sword and the arrival of the God-Beasts. It always seemed like a huge cop-out for the two "losing" countries to just roll over "oh they got the sword first we're fucked sorry bye." Rather, I'd like to see an actual global war between the three powers which the players would somehow take part in. Have them go down fighting.grinvader wrote:Well... from what I saw these last years, one thing they would probably change is the complete random produces of eq (and ????) seeds.Deathlike2 wrote:[SD3] should be ported, if not just to have an official translation. Heh, that's kinda bold, but could be good. Would add some hours of gameplay, and some major events that could make way to several endings. Me likes.Louis Cypher wrote:The thing I'd like to see in a remake of SD3 is a new series of events between the recovery of the Mana Sword and the arrival of the God-Beasts. In the light ruins (among others, but that's where I do it), there are mama potos. Once you killed a couple godbeasts, they get high enough in level to get the near-death 'summon papa poto'... which summons a papa poto one level above theirs. Papas drop ???? seeds. Also, what poto trick?
Same thing with the beastmasters in the moonreading tower. Go there after a couple other godbeasts, and they'll summon kerberos near death. And keros drop eq seeds.
I usually pull all that around level 32. Much easier than the lv41 mobs in the specific dungeons, anyway. You get ultimate mid-eq, makes the rest easier, you have enough ???? to morph into any end-class you wish as soon as you reach lv38, and enough eq seeds to get a good amount (if not all) of the endclass eq right away.
Then I usually like to get an extra spare of endclass eq, just to have every piece of possible eq in storage - I'm silly like that.

Actually, you have a good point. Filling in the internals between the warring parties can definately sell.grinvader wrote:Heh, that's kinda bold, but could be good. I already abuse the ??? seeds from the Papa Poto spawn (the Ice God-Beast area), but I hadn't considered the Kerberos drops... hmm, I'll have to go play SD3 again. In the light ruins (among others, but that's where I do it), there are mama potos. Damn, i missed a lot of Mana discussion. At a time when I least expect it too.
As far as Secret of Mana goes, the only real tough boss in the game is spiky tiger (the first time around), when you beat him, the difficulty of the game goes WAAAAAY way down.
And as far as xamenus says, how can you NOT beat the Hammer Bros. in SMRPG. They're gone in 3 jumps and a punch liner.

actually, i don't finish a lot of the rpgs i play. i usually just lose interest midway. i never finished SMRPG, SoE, SoM, all the zelda games, lufia games, DQ games, BoF, etc.
It took me several playthroughs to finish CT, FF4, FF6, BoF II, and pokemon (technically i didn't finish that either since i never did catch'em all)

I usually demolish the AXEM Rangers in just about any order.
I once caught em all in Pokemon Red/Blue

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

one time I played through at an extremely low level and they actually managed to kill part of my party but they literally could not kill Mallow, he had some sort of accessory equipped that made the battle impossible to lose, how is that for funny!lockharte wrote:that reminds me...i never finished SMRPG. i could never beat the axen rangers.
yeah it's like any strategic fight, take out the healer first makes the most sense.

And that's why I have Peach invincible with the Lazy Shell Armor. Once you get that the game escalates downhill difficulty wise. It drastically boosts defense and takes away attack power, and she's not strong anyways so I said why not. As long as I have her not taking any damage, she can always be curing the two strongest berserkers (Mario and Bowser), while I pummel poor defenseless Culex into oblivion.Panzer88 wrote:

yeah, that lazy shell is like the Safety Ring, only expanded.
also it tends to knock down your speed significantly.

it's funny, I never equip my characters with any armor other than "work pants" because it has the highest attack, yeah I know, I have like no defense, but the funny thing is, I've never needed it. Work Pants kick ass!

Staying on the subject of Mana, even though many of you seem to feel Dawn of Mana is a failure... Well I do too. Even so Sword of Mana and Legend of Mana were really good games. They need to bring back the (flammie transportation aspect) of the game. One thing I did however like about Sword of Mana is at every level up you can choose whether your character would gain in stats like a Warrior, Monk, Magician, Sorcerer, etc. Warrior gaining expertise in strength, while a monk would have high hp and vitality, sorcerer having high magic, etc. While you didn't have flammie it was still a fun port from Final Fantasy adventure which I would never dare to play. My ONLY complaint about Legend of Mana is the fact that you can always start a battle over once you lose, and thus it makes the game drop in difficulty; everything else about the game was good, plant and seed management, golem/summon creation/the action buttons (jump) (slash), the battles and also very very well done 2 dimensional graphics. Both are gems.
