<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Forgive me for the thread rez, but I think this is relevant.
Anyway, this new version is CRASHING when it tries to resume some torrents I'm downloading. After actually openning the torrents in Azureus, it was doing fine for one session. Then I restart, and as soon as Azureus is loaded and (I think) starts checking the torrents, it crashes. I'm pretty pissed. And yes, I did some basic troubleshooting. Like uninstalling Azureus, deleteting the Azureus folder in %APPDATA%, and re-starting the Torrent. So, bye-bye Azureus.
Anyway, uTorrent seems quite nice. A shame that it's closed source, but that's OK. Is uTorrent still the current fad of BitTorrent clients? And I mean that in a good way, since it does seem to be quality. I guess I just say fad because for a while I think it was the ABC clients, then Azureus, now it seems like uTorrent.
Are there any other high-quality Torrent clients that I should consider?
Azureus 3 is now out of beta, I think? So now it's Azureus/Zudeo and then Azureus/Vuze. Anyway, I've been using Azureus for a while (2.5 series), and I thought that the 3.0 series was a relatively normal update, in addition to the new Zudeo/Vuze stuff.Clements wrote:I just thought I'll add this here: I just tried Azureus 3 beta - what a shitheap. I am using uTorrent from now on.

uTorrent sold out by the way late last year. It was bought by BitTorrent which in turn is affiliated with record labels aka RIAA.

I wouldn't upgrade uTorrent if I were you.
I don't blame the guy. I mean if somebody offered me some big life changing money for something I did, I'd sell out too. But it doesn't change the fact that uTorrent will no longer be my client of choice in the future. I will continue to use the version I do have until it's no longer useful and something better comes along. It had a nice run.

Since we're reviving old threads, has anyone torrented on Linux / FreeBSD?
I tried kTorrent, and it starts off strong at 300kbps, then within a minute or two drops to 3-5kbps and constantly bitches about corrupt chunks. The 'chunks completed' number just keeps going up and down, and you can basically let it run for weeks and it'll never finish. Anyone actually get this program to work, especially on FBSD?
Can't use WINE/VMware on 64-bit target, can't use Java for Azureus. Don't even know where to get Freeloader, let alone know if I can even use it.

I don't really download music with torrents, so I don't think I have much to worry about at this point.Deathlike2 wrote:If true, then Nightcrawler isn't paranoid. In fact, you should be very very scared. I'm serious.

It has more to do with a corporation+copyrighted material. It is not strictly music.Jipcy wrote:Agozer wrote:O RLY?Nightcrawler wrote:BitTorrent which in turn is affiliated with record labels aka RIAA.I don't really download music with torrents, so I don't think I have much to worry about at this point.Deathlike2 wrote:If true, then Nightcrawler isn't paranoid. Money talks, especially if you are offered in the millions most likely. Happens in many different instances in reality...Joe Camacho wrote:Yeah, maybe he might actually be able to buy something.Nightcrawler wrote:uTorrent sold out by the way late last year. KTorrent is buggy as FUCK. If you don't mind using console, give rtorrent a try.byuu wrote:Since we're reviving old threads, has anyone torrented on Linux / FreeBSD?

Unfounded paranoia. Microsoft has ties with studios too, so they must be sending all your activities to them, right?Nightcrawler wrote:uTorrent sold out by the way late last year. It was bought by BitTorrent which in turn is affiliated with record labels aka RIAA.

There's a privacy policy that explicitly states they track nothing at all with the client, nor put in DRM, adware or spyware. I used to be apprehensive, but the new devs have me convinced they have good intentions.
There's nothing wrong with new versions.

The deal just went down a few months ago. They've only released one minor update since then. Of course the current version is OK.
The point is, it's going to go the same direction as Bit Torrent, the official client. The studios WILL do what's necessary to protect any content.
The whole point of uTorrent was it was a compact, efficient torrent client. It won't be anymore. Do some more reading about the development plans. They declined to answer so many questions, but the information they did let out pointed in that direction.
You can bet any features added that have anything to do with with the corporations are going to have content protection to go along with it bloating the software.
Secondly, while they may not transmit too much information, they're not going to announce what they do collect. Microsoft doesn't.
Take a look at the all the traffic Windows itself tries to send outbound...

I always liked BitComet too. However, it's banned in a lot of private tracker circles.darkbenny wrote:sweener2001 wrote:bitcomet
