Isn't FF2 nerfed by design?

I tried to get into FF2, but even after a few hours, I still hated the "let's level up by attacking your own character" type of gameplay.

Better graphics won't solve that problem.
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

You've got a point there. It seemed easier to beat on yourself then to have enemies do it.

FF2 on the GBA was nerfed because there were points you didnt have to get beat on to up your hp, it seemed that times it would just go up on its own as well as most stats.

it's most certainly different, and I'm glad they didn't stick with it, but it's fun to have total control of the shape of your characters. like turn them all into uber monks and take the world or whatever.

I'd be cool if they kept remaking them like this, I mean, it would improve on the ones that were not really enhanced VISUALLY on the PSOne, WonderSwan, or GBA.

Rebalancing games is a tough chore. As long as the changes are sane, perhaps it may be worthwhile. The hardcore players are usually the ones to know the true differences. FF1 for GBA was really a radical change in many instances (mostly towards simplicity though). I didn't have that many issues (other than the game becoming much easier)... but by comparison though the new stuff added into the SNES FF series broke a lot of game balance... even with slightly tweaked game mechanics.

FF4A completely broke fighting behavior by adding "the extra spell" attack to make certain weapons way too overpowered. Unfortunately, the port added a dumbass spell check, which made the character stand out a little longer, even if they did not hold a weapon that casted an extra spell.

FF5A's Necromancer class reduced the usefulness of other classes. Plus, the new magic didn't come with inspired graphics.

FF6A's new weapons were completely uninspired, plus it did not properly take account in FF6's ultimate weapons.

If they could better balance these games.. other than making "better graphics" would be nice IMO.

yes, TRUE balancing and fixing would be much welcomed by all, some cynics might even buy them if they TRUELY fixed things and produced quality content (not too little, or too much new)

who specifically is developing it?

Saving the world is overrated! Terranigma was great... best storytelling of the whole series IMO.

I liked the fact that the beggining was so worked on... what happened from the middle and onward?

Well, it became a different game, which was fine with me. However, I hated the almost completely worthless magic system...

I played the (J) version of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings today. I would love to see a localised version.

what type of game is it again now? (Revenant Wings) Final Fantasy spin offs (sadly) never seem to be quite normal RPGs

Silent Hill: Origins.

Biggest problem is that it looks like they're going to try and make it a bit like RE4 in terms of combat, which means it could easily turn into a shooter.

Err, no. Lufia 3 was for GBC, belongs in the main lufia scenario line, and is quite badass.
Lufia "4" 'ruins of lore' was for GBA, and is completely new scenario wise. It happens 20 years after lufia 2, and the (necessary) lack of sinistrals makes it meh imo.
Lufia's all about the hot maxim<->erim through the generations stuff.

Ontopic, I'm gonna say Metroid 5.
Again.

It would be nice to play some missions before she met the metroids.

Now of I talk of games that are being in developing stage or maybe beta. I'll go with Odin Sphere! That game will kick serious ass.

Shit, I meant to say GBC  . L:TLA was probably one of my more favorite portable RPGs for a long while. It's a shame that it's so over looked.
