SNES CIC Chip disabling?

Post by kammedo »

I have issues with my GDSF7 playing last SNES cards (the ones with the F4113B CIC chip on them). I already modded the SNES to get the chip to work as a key (aka levering Pin 4, as found here http://www.ffviman.fr/sw-snes/snes-lockout.html). Now, wouldnt cutting the SNES CIC's RESET pin help to prevent it resetting the console? Considering the fact that CIC chip has its own bus it shouldnt interfer with gaming functionalities. Ideas?

If you've got the console apart already, isn't it just a matter of looping the output of the chip back into the input? (use a resistor). I don't remember exactly, but wasn't this "downside" even mentioned in the patent?

Then Nintendo did something weird with the SA-1 cartridges.

Sorry for not being any help, I just never had to deal with this stuff because of emulators and graphics cards TV-out.

this is the original doc I used, he says just disconnect pin 4, which will make the snes lockout chip think it's the key, and the chips will just do nothing. I have done this to my snes, and never had a single problem. pin 4 on my snes is just gone, chopped off. and I've played mario rpg to about halfway through the game with no problems.
