Problems with ZSNES being Defualt Program for Roms

Post by Seritho »

Well the title says it all more or less. I am having trouble getting my ZSNES to be the default loading program for my Roms. I redownloaded it, and some roms from the site, but the Roms don't have the ZSNES logo on them and when I go to select the Program to Open With, each time I select the ZSNES program, it doesn't seem to activate as the default. I can load the games file using the Load function in the ZSNES but not by clicking on the game icons. What do I do.

You load the game by using the load function in ZSNES.

You could also try NSRT Frontend.

Alright, I downloaded it, but it seems like it just scans my roms and gives me a little report on them. I need to find a way to get ZSNES to be placable on the Open With screen so that ZSNES is what automatically opens my roms rather than goiing to go through the Load process within the ZSNES emulator. I have Nestopia for my NES and it has the option of placing it as the default program, so why won't ZSNES, it used to be able to do it but for some reason not anymore.

Edit->Options->Emulators Tab->Define the path to ZSNES

Then, right click on the ROM with options to launch ZSNES with that game.

Just because another emu has a nice feature, it doesn't mean we have to as well. It's best that we don't mess with the Windows registry for anything.

It may have worked before (the Open With stuff you were referring to), however there were many other underlying bugs that existed prior that needed to be dealt with.

Alright, I went through the process, NSRT EDit, Emulator Tab, set path, but what do you mean by click on the rom with options? And thats odd, because I was able to do the whole Set Default thing with this edition of ZSNES, but then I deleted it and redownloaded it and then it stopped being able to do it.

I meant right click on the ROM in the NSRT frontend for options to launch the game with ZSNES.

Ok I see, I did it but the file refused to be launched. Or rather, nothing happened.

you must have NOT specified a valid path to zsnes in the options.

You need to put in the entire path, including the name of the executable.

Alright, I finished entering it in and it does load it, but the question is, how can I get the Rom game icons to load up on the ZSNES, just click click and then up pops ZSNES with the selected game?

You can also tell NSRT Frontend to launch ZSNES when you double click on a ROM if you want.

So it comes down to a manual load in the ZSNES or a potential damaging of ROMS, thats too bad I guess. But at least now I have some more info on this all and it was finally explained why I never could find ZSNES on my Programs list, it isn't there, that really confused me for awhile. Well thanks everyone, I really appreciate you being patient with me.

dude you can tell a certain file type (like smc) to open with any given program.

If you really can't bear just using the ZSNES user interface then what you REALLY need to do is request quick boot as a request, that would be in the bug reports/ feature requests board.

there really is no garuntee that they will add it though, and no real reason to.

I would like to note that Panzar was not included in my general thank you, that applied exclusively to the following in no alphabetical order, Xamenus, Nach, Deathlike2, Franpa and Neo Kaiser. As for your words Panzar, well I certainly could and may very well do so, this thread was meant to be a means to seek out information, not to bemoan the very few and very trivial weak points of an awesome emulator.

loading from file association cant damage your ROM's but it can make it impossible to save properly etc.
