A Decent Rom Hacker

Post by Seritho »

I am looking for a good Rom Hacker that enables me to easily and stably modify my savestates for several different games. Can anyone recommend one or are there none that are fairly proof against causing game corruption?

It is not a good idea to ask here... you could ask http://www.romhacking.net but know that every game is completely different and some games use special chips and have special data as well.. so it's not as simple as that when you look at this.

You are using vSNES and a Hex Editor right?

With the required offset info anyone could rather easily modify states and not corrupt it.

If you can't hex-edit, why don't you either use PAR/GG, or play the games as intended to?

Note that (afaik) many games use checksums to protect SRAM data against corruption, if it's that what you meant. Savestates don't have that protection.

Agreed, that's what I meant. Again, it's easier to use PAR/GG

I was going to mention the cheating utilities section at Zophar's Domain, but now that I think of it, that may not be wise.

Haven't savestates been modified quite a bit since these programs were written? Causing incompatibilities between some versions?

Anyhow, whatever you do, make sure to back up your unedited files before.

The location of the WRAM (i.e. content of RAM banks 7E and 7F) should be the same.
