To launch a console you need software. Either your console would have to seriously kick everyone else's ass for an affordable price (at this point impossible) or you need hot exclusive deals with game companies.

So it'd probably be more likely to see the likes of EA, Square-Enix, Bandai-Namco, Konami, or Capcom launch a system than say intel or nvidia

(yes I know Sony had virtually no in house development with launch of the PlayStation, but they had a cd drive, and 3D on their side, and they wouldn't have done it except they had already spent the money on development originally for the SNES CD)

I also know that Microsoft had small in house development too, but they had companies who had been making stuff for Dreamcast, plus some PC devs looking to branch out at that point. They unlike Intel or Nvidia had been making OSs and platforms for years and still took a big loss at first.

I can see someone like Microsoft or EA trying to buy Nvidia though, I wouldn't put anything past those monsters.

but again, I doubt ANY of this would happen.

Maybe Nolan Bushnell will pay to pick up the shattered pieces of Infogrames, and we'll see Atari return to it's rightful place as the innvoater, trend-setter, and dominant market force!

If the numbers from Corronchilejano are remotely correct...

The Wii is doing 2x better than the PS3.

The 360 is doing better than both Wii and PS3 combined.

Summary: Costing $200 (~66%? more than the 360 and Wii) more initially is costing Sony way more than anticipated as they have approximately 1/7 of the next gen consoles sold. That's simply tells the story of Sony's failure.

I don't know how Sony can get out of their $11.3 billion debt. Doing a price drop for the PS3 will just make things worse.

It sounds like a huge gamble was made.. and well, let's say the house won.

At this point, they need to seriously consider ceasing building the PS3, and find a way to reduce costs like mad and build some sort of PS3-mini that might break compatibility, but save face and their asses at the same time.

it's a Jap console for sure, at least it isn't in last place like last gen, Playstation is really getting kicked shitless, I can't believe I once thought the power was going to pull it through. It's just not showing enough visual or technical superiority over the 360 in it's software so fare to make anyone care. It'll stick around but they seriously have to do something in Japan, japanese are crazy enough to like anything Nintendo at this point.

The Wii sales should grow, or the 360 sales will level off a bit... but it would be a 5% difference in console sales overall I guess. As for the PS3, who knows.. it won't be going up quick.

Its still impossible to get a Wii here. PS3's on the other hand are always in stock.

I've had a Wii for a while now with Zelda and Warioware. Literally anyone who touches Warioware is hooked on it, from my little brother to my mum. I'm looking forward to the big three (SSB:Brawl, Metroid Prime: Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy). Hopefully the popularilty of the console will make some 3rd party developers wake up. As for PS3, if it is still going in a few years and has some good titles, I may pick one up when it has dropped significantly in price (like I did with PS2). I doubt I'll get the Xbox360, as it has primarily shootan gamez.

I'm planing to skip the whole new current gen completely. I feel like video games are not that fun anymore. I have 15 unfinished RPGs. and the desire to finish them is not with me anymore.

And yes, that IS the only 360 game I own right now. To be fair, I've only owned the deck for a week right now.

I'm not buying next gen for a bit but I think it's unfair to say that there is nothing.

what genres do you like? even if you only like Yappanese RPGs there are still plenty of those destined for next gen. Money is an issue, but I don't think fun is. I'm with you though in that I still have plenty of old stuff to enjoy before spending for a next gen console, and by then they'll be cheaper.
