opening:
soul caliber 3:another new game in a very good fighting game series.after soul caliber(1999) i thought the series was dead.then the second came out a few years ago,with a ton of unlockable things.good for a few months.even had console exclusive characters.my favorites:
1)spawn(xbox)
2)heihatchi(ps2)
3)link(gamecube)
dont get me wrong,they were all good characters.
in october 25,2005,soul caliber three was released.i got it only a month or three ago,and it was a "greatest hits" and $13(where i got it...
).it introduced three new characters,a couple of new modes,a shop,and,my most memorable,a creat a character feature!some of the characters look different,or return,as well.(hwang and lizardman instantly come to mind,but so does rock and li-long(li long is from soul blade)).is it worth it's place in the legendary and addictive fighting game series?graphics:9
beautiful.all the characters,new and old,are incredible looking.the opening movie is spectacular,and the stages are incredible.no gripes here.

voices are clear,weapon hits and clashes sound great,and dont get me started on the soundtrack.you can download it here:

the most important part of any game,ESPECIALLY fighting game,has to be the gameplay,and this one is just awesome and addictive.the controls are fluid,so the game wont be hard for the wrong reasons.the characters have a TON of moves.they're not difficult to pull off,like in tekken,but not too easy.you also got a couple of modes of play.
TALES OF SOULS
the story mode.you pick a character,go through a couple of fights and cutscenes,while reading about whats going on in between fights.1 victory for win,difficulty increases as you defeat more opponnents,difficulty cannot be changed.
CHRONICLES OF THE SWORD
this is what keeps the gameplay from getting a 10.you creat a character(or characters,the game gives you partners to choose from,but they use only one fighting discipline.characters cannot be used in any other modes besides this.),and it's basically a real-time strategy.if your characters clash with the enemy,you can let em fight it out or enter a battle,like all the other modes.your choice.enemies may retreat into forts which you must sit there and watch your characters attack it,trying to get in,kill the cowards(via one-on-one fight) and capture the fort.THIS is why im glad to have a second tv in my room.so...much...waiting...and the load time o get in the fight is murder.it's not all bad,though.it can provide a good challenge later in the mode,and a lot of the create-a-character unlockables are in here.thus us the mode i play the least.
WORLD TOURNAMENT
with a name like that,it must be online play,right?WRONG!!!
it's just a couple of tournaments,three rounds,and i THINK the difficulty is always on hard.nothing special.moving on.
SOUL ARENA
1)QUICK PLAY
the arcade mode of the game.7 fights,then the fight with abyss.again,nothing so special.moving on.
2)MISSION MODE
fight a few fights with a certain objective or limitation.good for a few hours.can unlock the joke weapons.= here,but you can also unlock them just by getting in a lot of fights.
TRAINING
self explanitory
CREATE A SOUL
create a character,or edit the colors of existing characters.
MUSEUM
art gallery,view cutscenes from tales of souls,watch the computer fight to see how those characters AI works,and more.

overall:9 1/2
overall,this is a pretty impressive follow up to soul caliber 3...i especially like the new characters,but mostly zasalamel.if you're a fighting game fan,go out and pick this up.now.my other only gripe about this is that it's a ps2 exclusive

TIPS:
1)set up the controlls so that
L1:A+B(square triangle)
L2:A+K(square circle)
R1:A+G(grab 1)
R2:B+G(grab 2)
2)develope combos for the characters you are using.for example,
MITSIRUGI
run and hit A(square),down+K(circle),and then press B(triangle).nice amount of damage,especially while wielding soul edge.
3)LEARN THE CHARACTER YOU ARE GOING TO USE!
i may have learned all about zasalamels moves in the heat of battle(well...most of em.i thank the tutorial),it is better to go through the tutorial or training.
