Kind of neat, except for the price tag.

In a trailer of EndWar, it showed a general using this inside a base. It looked neat, and this makes it real, maybe MS isn't so bad of a company.

I remember seeing this in slashdot. They linked to this, the homepage of that research. I was thinking it would be cool to use this.

Edit: It appears they have spun off into a company now too http://www.perceptivepixel.com/. And from the looks of their interface it looks like they have borrowed a bit from another developer as well.

MacSlow It looks like all his media was down, but was a similar way of dealing with files visually.

There's a framework for similar interaction available, for free, and you only need a webcam and a printer to start playing.
Here's a more sophisticated demonstration.

Pfft. They already did it in Minority Report. MS is nothing but copycats. :P

MS Surface commercial parody lol

Sometimes, you have to wonder is there even a point in all these technological gimmicks? I mean jesus, I don't want an integratred clock in my cereal box, nor would I see the need to have a dinner or salon table have an integrated PC inside.

why would I, a normal person, want a computer in my house for my daily use? computers are just for the technical people.

guess the reference!

It's basically what many people (specially close minded businessmen) said about the PCs when they showed up the first time. Then again, an apple was way cheaper than Surface.

Bad analogy, and you're wrong.

Is that what you're saying, one who doesn't automatically give in to the latest commercial product craze = close minded. I suppose you could also say people who buys stuff he/she really has no need for is just a moron, if you're into easy simplifications.

Your analogy isn't good anyway. PCs, for the normal folks where a new product at the time, something that they never had and something that no other product had the same capabilities.
But the thing is, this Surface table-thing doesn't do anything new... It just combine many other pre-existing objects (PC, table and touchscreen interface)

If I integrate a PC in my toaster, I haven't invented anything new afaik (and I wouldn't see the point either).

So I take that back then there were revolutionary uses for the computer (which was just a bit more than just a calculator and typewriter - was a home printer even available back then)?

What ever happened to the 3D monitor that also responded to touch? I don't know if anyone remembers from 1 or 2 years ago, using electrolitic properties of some gas (I don't even know if that's the word in english).
