exactly, I've been planned for over a year to wait more towards the end of the PS3 lifecycle to buy one so I can get a good model and it'll play decent retro games out of the box. They prolly don't give a shit anyways though as they will try to force you to rebuy games via their online service.
I'm even holding off on the 360 knowing that both systems still have price cuts ahead and that they will keep adding bigger hard-drives and features to keep up with each other and convince people to buy them.

I wanted a PS3 to replace my dead PS2 and for the upcoming FF and SC games. Now that plan has failed and gone to shit, thanks Sony.
Xbox Live isn't a monthly based service, but a yearly service. And there's also two options of an Xbox Live account: either silver (free) or gold (pay).
I know... it's $80 for 12 months of xbox live (here anyway, dunno about the US), fuck that. Micro$oft are really sneaky bastards. A console easily lasts 7 years times $80 = $560. I don't care if that payment was over a thousand years, the point is they're robbing me of $560, fuck them. And I suppose xbox silver may be free in the USA but it's not in Canada... or at least wasn't otherwise I wouldn't have seen xbox live silver cards for sale.
If xbox live silver is free then MAYBE I would consider it if it weren't for the following reasons:
Their stupid xbox packages are retarded, if I were to run around buying all the parts to make it match the basic 60GB PS3 package it would cost more. A 20GB hard drive is not enough and the 'elite' package which has a 120GB hard drive costs the same amount as a 60GB PS3 anyway and still doesn't come with an HDDVD drive. On top of that I'd have to buy a PS2 to play any of my old games and wouldn't be able to play any of the new generation FF games.

If you think adding another $200 to the cost so that it gains PS3 status, I'd say you should stop complaining about it.
