Question about Percent to Execute

Post by theboy_181 »

Can some one explain Percent to Execute a little futher to me? I use DOS Zsnes in my arcade cabinet, and I found that Super Mario World had some major slow down in it. Im running a p4 3.o gig so I was shocked to see slow downs when lots of enemys gathered on the screen.

I did a little googling and found that SMW had some slow downs on the real SNES. I didnt recall this off the top of my head but I guess that SMW was quite the feat in its day.

I googled a bit on Percent to Execute and decided to change the value to 125 in my Zsnes.cfg this seemed to fix the slowdowns in most areas of SMW.

My questions are.

1. Are there slow downs in the real hardware while playing SMW

2. What is the recomendations for Percent to Execute settings

3. Why don't we crank the value of Percent to Execute to 150?

4. What games does Percent to Execute effect?

Thanks again and GREAT JOB on a wonderful emulator!!

If you search the forum, you'll find the answer.

In some instances, yes, particularly when there are numerous sprites on the screen. In other instances, there is not so great timing (such as the multi-block Palace Switch "release effect")
2. What is the recomendations for Percent to Execute settings
100, which is the default
3. Why don't we crank the value of Percent to Execute to 150?
Because it would break other games.
4. What games does Percent to Execute effect?
Find out for yourself, most problematic games have been posted over+over+over and mentioned more often than not, so it's not hard to find on this forum.

You could try other emulators to test if it's an issue of ZSNES, for example bsnes.

(Hint: SRM files are compatible between emulators.)
vSNES | Delphi 10 BPLs
bsnes launcher with recent files list
