Fun Fact: Right now the only possible way to sort of get a Wii is getting a Bundle for about 550 to 600 US dollars.
Here in Mexico, it's known that electronics cost an eye and a leg, here in local Costcos and other shops you can get one for like 4200 Pesos, with the current parity of the US Dollar VS the Peso, you could get a Wii for...
4 200 Mexican pesos = 387.7734 U.S. dollars
So if you live at a border town, you could try crossing the border and get one from a shop, no line, no waiting, just get in and ask for one.

Lying SOBs. I despise console manufacturers every launch and every Christmas because they purposely don't bother to produce any knowing full well they're going to sell out on those occasions.Nintendo has repeatedly denied rumors that it's creating an artificial shortage by not increasing production to match demand.
I can recognize that while it's dirty, it's good business driving up demand for the product so people will continue to want them all through 2008 until next Christmas.

I don't know, I have a lot easier time believing them when I see the total sales they are posting every month. They move a lot of consoles.Nightcrawler wrote:Lying SOBs. come live in Oregon where there is no sales tax. Or better yet live on a border state so you don't get our state taxes but still get no sales taxes.snkcube wrote:I kind of wish it was like that in the U.S.Joe Camacho wrote:It's already included in the retail price.phOnYmIkE wrote:is there sales tax in mexico?
@Nightcrawler, that might make sense ordinarily, but I doubt it, Nintendo is going to put out as many systems as physically possible. Why? because they will all sell and all continue to sell, Christmas is a dumb time to create an artificial shortage if your system sells faster than just about any other home console ever has. Now the PS3 launch, that is another story all together.
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
Exactly what border states? I'm quite sure Arizona has sales tax.snkcube wrote:Damn California and its high state taxes.Panzer88 wrote:come live in Oregon where there is no sales tax. I'm glad someone else here sees through their shady marketing tactics. Their "unintentional" shortages are about as believable as their price hike from $199 as "required by retailers."Nightcrawler wrote:Lying SOBs. I can't believe this new age of gaming ... every single month I see people sleeping on the streets in front of Best Buy just to get these new systems. Absolutely pathetic, both from the consumers and the companies.
Doesn't bother me, I'm still waiting on the PS2 to drop to $99 before I buy it, same price I paid for my Dreamcast -- six or seven years ago. You could say I have a lot of patience.

I'm sure they like more demand than supply... but not this much more demand.byuu wrote:I'm glad someone else here sees through their shady marketing tactics. As-is, the Wii's been basically unavailable for over a year. Eventually, people get sick of waiting and find something else.
Either way, it takes more than one party to create the media circuses that pass for hardware launches now. There's an ample supply of people willing to camp out on freezing concrete to pay too much for a system with no games. Hell, the PS3 sold out at launch, despite 3D0-esque pricing.
Where's the logic in that? With almost everyone and their mother wanting a Wii, not producing more is as stupid as you can get. Nintendo would probably double their income if more Wiis were out in the market. The only explanation is production shortages.byuu wrote:I'm glad someone else here sees through their shady marketing tactics. it's almost like a network of computers
your network will be as powerful as your weakest link
so if one or perhaps several wii components can't be produced fast enough, then that explains the shortages

GameCube for $1. Nobody can beat that... unless of course you talk about ULTIMATE KICKBOXING for 1 penny.DancemasterGlenn wrote:I got a Dreamcast when they went down to 50$, with sonic adventure and jet grind radio. Definitely one of my best (and cheapest) console purchases, and even though I don't use it much I love the system. I wish I could get more deals like that...

I believe Nintendo is claiming RAM chips.adventure_of_link wrote:it's almost like a network of computers

Which was also what stalled 360 production.
The world needs more RAM fabs.
Well, both the 360 and the Wii have specialized memory, the wii even more so. I haven't heard of problems in the Ram production for it, but that does make sense...
Consoles have had production problems before. The PS2's US and Japanese launch had to be cut back too. I don't recall what the Japanese numbers were, but the US launch got cut back to 500K.
the same exact number as the PS3's worldwide launch.
