PCI 64 sound cards?

Place to talk about all that new hardware and decaying software you have.

PCI 64 sound cards?

Post by clessoulis »

Is there such thing as PCI 64 slot sound cards? I'm trying to free up some of my regular pci slots and I have 2x pci 64 slots. Are there any such things as pci 64 cards or any sort anymore?

There have been no consumer sound cards with a PCI-X connection. I don't know about pro-audio cards, but I doubt they are what you're looking for.

Many PCI-X slots are backwards-compatible with 3.3V PCI cards. Check your motherboard manual and the specs for any PCI cards you have in your system. PCI cards that have a rear notch will run in a 3.3V PCI slot and should physically fit in your PCI-X slots. Note that if you are actually using PCI-X cards in the other slots, you might mangle your max bandwidth on the PCI-X bus by dropping a regular PCI card in there (again, check your motherboard documentation).
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
