Can't get Game Genie codes to work in ZSNES 1.36
I'm running windows XP with service pack 2.
I do not know what is wrong but for some reason none of my old .CHT files will work. I've even tried going back to old versions as far as v0.800 and copying the .CHT files into the directory and using them with the older program. In every one of them the cheats refuse to work correctly. I've also tried using different versions of the rom as I have heard that sometimes there are multiple issues of a game and some cheats will only work for a specific issue.
I have run ZSNES as my primary Super Nintendo emulator since way back when I was running Windows 98 and back then everything worked fine. The cheats did what they said in the websites I got them from. I also ran it on XP Pro while I was living with my now ex-boyfriend. Everything worked fine on his machine as well and all the cheats I had did what they were supposed to. I don't know what has changed or why the cheats aren't working.
I've even tried finding new cheats from websites but they still don't work properly when I input them in ZSNES. I heard there was a change in one of the versions which they set it so that any cheats would be "auto-fixed." I assume that what this does is alter the settings of the code.

Are your ROMs the same ones that the cheats ran on before?
or make 'em yourself.

Well, I seriously doubt that the code of the games changed. What particular games are you trying? Did you make sure that your games are not corrupt (make sure the checksum is good, and/or check them with NSRT)? Did you remember to add the dash between the code?
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

Did you try the latest WIP (http://www.ipherswipsite.com)?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Hmm?
What is the "WIP?"
I managed to get cheats to work for MegaMan X, there are apprently two versions of the rom as I had thought. I had 1.0 before, the one in my friend's collection of emulation that he gave me is 1.3 according to GoodRom. He only keeps the latest version of all his games, so any of my versions I had are probably older than his and the cheats aren't compatible for the newer version roms. I can't even get hame genie/pro action codes off the internet to work properly on his roms and yeah I remembered to add the "-" for genie codes. So what I did was copy my older version rom and its cheat file over to my ZSNES 1.36 directory and loaded it and the cheat. To my suprise it worked. I tried doing the same thing for MegaMan X2 and X3 but it didn't work the way it did for X1. Still not getting the cheats to work like they did before.
Gargh, this is so irritating. And yeah, some people would say "only wimps use genie codes," but I like them because you can do wierd strange things that make a game you've already beaten a million times more interesting and fun.
Not being able to use codes makes me a saaaaaaaaad panda.

WIP is a work in progress, however it is far advanced compared to 1.36BlazeFoxKitsune wrote:What is the "WIP?"

Codes usually don't work for all versions of the game. Different versions have different addresses for the value you want to change.
Make you own codes, it's not hard, you have a link, and they're pretty much guaranteed to work. Takes less time than lookin em up.

Uhg... I hate complication.
Make them myself with a hex editor?
Okay, tried that.. I did Search, then got hit until only 1 result showed up. But I don't know what to do after that. Number crunching is too tedious and I don't have the patience to sit there trying to find the specific addresses that determine the Energy, Jump Height, and walking speed. It's so much easier to just find Pro Action Replay codes and input them into ZSNES... why aren't there websites out there that have cheats created specifically for the different version roms? They should be like "there are two different releases of this game, these cheats are for such and such version, and these cheats are for the alternate version."

Re: Uhg... I hate complication.
Why? Probably because the people who made the codes had no idea about versions of the rom. They likely made them on a game genie hooked up to a real snes. I personally made tons of codes for Castlevania IV years before I ever heard of an "emulator". I personally wouldn't care about different versions of a rom, because they worked on my game. Quite frankly, it is easy enough to find roms on the internet, just find the alternate version of your rom. :pBlazeFoxKitsune wrote:Make them myself with a hex editor?

I think you misunderstood.
When I said "two different versions" this meant that there are two seperate releases of the REAL GAME CART by the manufacturer. Even in the old Game Genie books there were some parts saying "there are two different versions of this game, one set of codes is for the common version, if the first set of codes don't work try the second set as you may have an alternate version of the game."
I remember such a time when I was younger.. I still had my NES and I had rented Zelda 2: Adventure of Link for the weekend and tried to input some of the codes from my Game Genie book. They did not work or did completely the opposite of what they were supposed to do. If it won't get me in trouble, I could send you the alternate version roms of Mega Man X1, X2 and X3 so you would be able to work with them to make codes using that Hex Editor thing and you could post them to a website.
This way other emu-gamers with those particular versions of the games would be able to have the codes. The main types of codes I usually used were Super Jumps, Infinite Energy, Infinite Weapons and codes that affected the Blaster. Like perhaps have a code that makes it so that all your normal shots end up being 3rd level charged shots.

I made a bunch of codes for x1-3 a long time ago. One of my favorites was this code 7e0a3006 for x2. Try it, it's fun.
