Regen for Linux and Windows
Moderator: General Mods
Hi,
Some people have reported that the NTSC plugin is very slow. I made som slight change to it to make it faster. I need someone to test if it really is faster. It uses SSE2 instructions so only Pentium 4 or up can run it. You can get from here. Tell me if its faster.
@ King of Chaos
Thanks. I'll see what I can do with this info.
stay safe,
AamirM

Heh, suddenly Regen is crashing on me when I try to start it up.

Nothing changed with Regen or computer settings. Just tried to start it up and was welcomed with this black box. Then I tried to downgrade to v0.6 and it crashes too with the same error.
EDIT: I think it's from the new NTSC plugin. Doesn't happen when using the older one. Oh well.
New issues noticed...
-Trying to use Regen.exe alone without any of it's depending directories causes the emulator to crash. The emulator should create those needed directories if they're missing, and use the None video plugin by default.
-Having sound disabled for most of the game until you reactivate it, doesn't reenable sound. Nothing is heard. Tested with Castle Of Illusion.

Oops. I didn't pay too much attention to their page. Is DGen open source? If it is, you could try to get the info. Otherwise you probably have to contact the authors of said hack.AamirM wrote:I looked there but there is no source code provided just binaries.Deathlike2 wrote:I can only think of looking at the hacked Gens source for the answers you seek. The website that hosts this hack provides the source of the modified Gens required to run the game.

i see, in that case, thanks AamirM for not spending any more time on a hack.Deathlike2 wrote:tetsuo55 wrote:does an original cart exist?AamirM wrote:I have decided to *not* add support for this game because it requires me to change my Z-80 memory handlers to be inaccurate.Deathlike2 wrote:Oops. Well, if the hack used bank switching, it'd probably work in Kega and Regen. But it doesn't.
Remapping keyboard shortcuts for menu items, eh? I got some ideas for that...
Load ROM = CTRL+G
Power On / Hard Reset = Tab
Soft Reset = CTRL+Tab
Power Off = Shift Tab
Turbo Mode = Backspace
Cheats = ALT+G
All other shortcuts the same.

I'm thinking for Video...
VSync = Esc
Enter Fullscreen = Alt+Enter (and to exit it too)
Disable Sprite Limitation = Alt+0
Sound menu...
Disable Sound = CTRL+0
Lowpass Filter = CTRL+F11
Overdrive = CTRL+F12
WAV Dump = CTRL+W
Misc menu...
Always On Top = CTRL+T
Autopause = CTRL+P
Show FPS = CTRL+F
Show Messages = CTRL+M
For the rest, I have to think about those.

You're right, I'll keep an organized list for ya and put it in this post in several minutes.
EDIT: Here we go, this is what I gathered here and on other sites so far. I'll add the Linux-specific stuff in a bit. If I missed anything, please tell me and I'll add it ASAP.
All are in the same post with the bug reports...

Found new game issue. Some sprites in Vectorman appear above the hud (like Castle Of Illusion). Happens with v0.7 beta.

Please don't. Soft reset would be a more convenient thing to put in there. Also, it could annoy people who reach the end of X-Men and just press TAB to see the final scene, when they realize they've just turned off and on the emulated system, rather than pressing the Reset button.King Of Chaos wrote:Power On / Hard Reset = Tab
Am I the only one who thinks this is way too random?King Of Chaos wrote:VSync = Esc
Also, I'd use CTRL+O to Open a game, just like almost every application out there. There's no need to keep the shortcuts from Kega Fusion, if this is supposed to be a different emulator...

True. Somebody like me is used to using Kega's and Gens' hotkeys, but those issues with the keys can be solved via a configuration box like SnesGT that allows a user to customize all the hotkeys.

I got bored so I decided to update the icons so they're all in one file (with color depths of 256 and 32-bit colors).

If the author of SSF spoke English and I knew how to get in contact with him, I could toss him the Saturn ones I redrew (since SSF needs a damn proper icon going).
