from kotaku's daily most popular stories: apparently blu-ray isn't big enough for MGS4, KoF XII is 100% hand drawn, and video games RAPE women.

seemed like a decent selection of stories. what confounds me is mgs4 not fitting on a blu-ray. some rather large games have managed to fit onto dvd-9 for 360 without too much a noticeable difference from the PC.

I don't know. It sounds like Kojima isn't trying so hard to compress the data in MGS4, even though he stated so.

Why don't they just add a disk?

I'm assuming they want things to be "convenient" and are trying to avoid using multiple discs.

It's possible he did the traditional "Fill the disc with FMVs" thing, and didn't want to cut them down...

It's also possible that several entirely different gameplay styles/elements were in the game(Possible optional ones ala the Solid Snake Skateboarding in MGS2:S). I doubt that, however.

Maybe MGS4 is as long as 3 MG games.

God that's what Street Fighter 4 should have looked like. That's gorgeous.

KOF is BEAUTIFULL, can't wait for it. MGS4... ehr.. i dunno, I didn't really like 2 or 3, it's like they're over complicating the storyline.

In other off topic news: Zelda Coalition's Forums have been closed apparently forever. The guys that found the Triforce, the unicorn statue and the Starwing have been finally nullified by two assholes. Rom hacking just took a shotgun blast on da face.

i honestly can't think of anything that would take up all that space. just because a game like oblivion fit on one dvd-9. the orange box could also be brought up. but then there are games like blue dragon and lost odyssey that come on multiple discs, and that's not because there's so much extra gameplay.

not knowing much about game-making makes speculation on my part hard.

Two bastards hacked the server due to personal anal-homosexual reasons, and they've actually done it THREE times already.
Forums are back up for the 3rd time anew, so I guess it wasn''t the end. It actually has become quite entertaining to watch.

IIRC, all PS3 games are on blue-ray. Xbox360 games use standard DVD.

My guess is that both languages won't fit cleanly on a single layer IE the game itself is larger than 12.5 GB with a given language.
Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?

Wha? What does "anal-homosexual" mean in this context?

A popular term for “anal retentive personality,” a personality marked by excessive orderliness, extreme meticulousness, and often suspicion and reserve

but they can use a DL blu-ray disc. that's where i'm confused. gigantic games fit on DVD-9 for 360 just fine, but MGS4 is having issues with blu-ray?

he has 50 GB to play with, and he's lacking for space.

I'm sure it's just more hype. "OMG this game is gonna be so awesome it can't fit into 50 gig OMG!!" and then, once again, deliver nothing special.

I believe right now you have to get special approval to use the DL discs(I saw a then Heavenly Sword engine programmer talking about how HS almost got the nod to become the first DL game), and DL discs are more expensive to manufacture. Konami may have gone the cheap-ass route on him.

Now, given that if the pattern the MGS games have continues, this game will have much more content than the last, with much of it being bonus mode stuff. Combine that with ultra-high quality audio and the FMVs that Japanese companies love so much, it wouldn't surprise me if they're getting awfully close to the 25 gig limit.

"ultra high quality audio" was meant to cover lossless.

It wouldn't be a surprise to me...
