Is it possible...

Gamepad acting up? Keyboard not responding properly? Can't get that other user to work? Read and post about it here.

Is it possible to switch the wire of one controller with an other one? Example: snes with gamecube. If so how? I would love to use my snes controller again... I haven't used that thing in years...

In most cases, no.

This is no exception. The SNES and GameCube use different communications protocols.

In most cases? Do you mean it is possible?

Genesis controllers work wonderfully on old Atari 8-bit computers. Old Atari joysticks also work in those Genesis games that only rely on a single button (like Sonic).
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Ouch... I don't think I have ever seen a genesis controller before... Much less use one.... How about ps2 or xbox? Can I use those cords?

how about you learn about the protocol differences, along the way picking up electronic skills and the ability to program.

Yes of course anything is possible. But, no, in the most basic consumer electronics sense: if the plug doesn't fit, it ain't gonna work. And it ain't gonna work if you force it in either.

Not with an SNES and GameCube it isn't.

In fact, with one or two notable exceptions, plug-swapping won't work with anything post-NES.
Even then, there's only a handful of devices you can make those work on without a translator. The XBox pad is probably the most useful without additional hardware, since it can run on any USB-equipped PC.

So if I open a xbox controller up, take out the wire, open a snes controller, and swap the wires it would work?

The SNES is neither USB-equipped nor a PC.

No.

If you open an XBox controller and swap the wire with a standard USB cable, it will work. Provided you get the connections right.

SNES controllers won't work with anything else except NES controllers.

It is worse than that. The guy has no hope of completing the task, no less than grasping at straws.

Let me put it this way...
Every system's controllers have a specific language they speak.
In most cases, each system speaks it's own unique language.

XBox uses a limited set of USB, so it's controllers work with PCs, but PC pads don't work with XBoxes.

The 360 speaks full USB, but it's racist. It won't talk to dirty foreign gamepads.

SNES and NES controllers speak a common language. If you change the plugs, NES and SNES controllers will work on each others' systems.

The PS2 speaks an enlarged version of PS1. And USB, but it's racist like the 360.

The Genesis uses an expanded Sega Master System language, which is itself an extension of Atari VCS.

Pretty much everything else uses it's own language.

Now to put this in simple terms...
If you called China and started talking to them in english, would they know what you were saying?
You'd need an interpreter, wouldn't you?

And that's why devices like these exist...
http://www.orang3.net/store/welcome/smartjoy.html

Note that the box is NOT empty space and wires. There's a circuit board in there with a processor that takes commands from one language and translates them to the other language.
We're well beyond simple wire-swapping and into actual programming.

If you have $20, a gamecube extension cable, a spare snes controller and are willing to do a bit of soldering, you could by a fully programmed pcb from raphnet
X2Wii: NES, SNES or N64 controller to Gamecube/Wii converter kit

this guy also ships internationaly

If you can't afford an adapter, then just play with your current GC controller, and suffer with the bad d-pad.

have you tried "googleing";how to solder?
I just did, and it came up with some good pages.
I've also seen soldering irons for $6AU, and you can probly get them even cheaper on ebay (though i'm not certain about that).
