Name that game: PC

Friend is describing a game to me. It's a sidescroller like Metroid, but you can fly. It was an older game for the PC, like 15+ years ago. Any ideas, or pointed questions I can ask?

Way older he says - perhaps my 15 year estimate is conservative. He recalls that Another World was out at the time, which would make it 1991 or thereabout.

Would it be this game? Dunno if it's like metroid or not seeing as I've never played it before. It says it's an arcade shooter so maybe not. The only reason I even know about it was because I was looking up stuff on Space Quest with google.

Edit:
Just tried the sequal in dosbox. I'm pretty sure this is the game he was talking about since it was published in 1990. It does sort of have that old metroid vibe to it. If you press down you can turn into a jet and fly around the levels. Pretty nifty game actually.
