zsnes doesn't save stereo sound option
Running under Linux, the stereo sound doesn't sound as good as mono sound. It's hard to describe a sound, so let me just say that I'm happy (er, happier) with mono sound.
But when I deselct the box for stereo sound (which is now enabled by default), it never saves this. I have tried manually pressing the "save cfg options" button from the GUI, but it doesn't help.
Is it possible to get it to save this option so I don't need to deselect it every time.
Yes, I probably could use command line options for all you thinking that right now, but shouldn't it save this option anyway?
I don't know if it happens under Windows as I always use stereo sound and it works great.
Specs, specs... um. I have an nVidia TNT2 video card, P4 2 GHz machine, gentoo linux, WIP 0920 (from ipher), 2.6.8 kernel, ALSA sound, intel8x0 (one of those crappy built-in chips 82801BA/BAM AC'97 audio according to lspci). I'm want to use mono sound at 22050 sampling rate. This sounds the closest to correct.
Oh, and BTW, don't try chaning sound from stereo to mono while it's running a game. SDL Parachute city.

Remember that zsnesl has 2 config files, one in ~/.zsnes/ and the other in $savedir/
If you set such a directory, you have to overwrite ~/.zsnes/zsnesl.cfg with $savedir/zsnesl.cfg for zsnes to 'remember' the change.
Same with zguicfgl.dat, of course.

I haven't set any directories, and my ROM path on Linux is read only (NTFS partition). So there should only be the one config file.grinvader wrote:Remember that zsnesl has 2 config files, one in ~/.zsnes/ and the other in $savedir/

And even if there were two, why would it save every option except stereo?
Does this mean it saves its config to one location and reads from another? This seems like a bug in itself if that is your meaning.

I didn't say it was perfect. This is a good thing for user-defined configs.
It reads from the ~/.zsnes/ files and writes to the $savedir/ files.
<so you can have a mindless moron play with it without having to reset everything after>
If sound config only isn't saved, it's not caused by this. I don't really know what's up, sorry...

Hmmm. At least there is a motivation for it. Though preferably in Linux, the moron could use their own account and screw up their own settings.grinvader wrote:I didn't say it was perfect. This is a good thing for user-defined configs.

Or if you have to share an account, make the config file read-only. This would accomplish both goals, no?
I don't like the idea of multiple config files for the same user. Seems unsettling in a multi-user environment.

I've found out that the stereo sound setting in the ZSNES Windows WIP(latest one) also does'nt get saved. This problem is driving me up the wall.It seems that it is always enabled at the startup of ZSNES(it is possible to disable it when ZSNES is running) .
But the weirdest thing of all is that the stereo sound setting is not read from zsnesw.cfg. I've even tried to manually edit the config file to disable stereo sound(so it is disabled). But somehow it still is enabled at startup, even though the config file is set so it is disabled. I'm running Windows Mellenium Edition.

All works fine here. (linux CVS from 10 minutes ago)
I launch zsnes, disable stereo, save config, exit.
The file in $savedir/zsnesl.cfg stores the modification (stereo = 0)
After that, if I want to keep the settings I just changed, I overwrite ~/.zsnes/zsnesl.cfg and zguicfgl.dat with $savedir/zsnesl.cfg and zguicfgl.dat
I launch zsnes again, all works fine. Sound is mono.
Maybe check your directory/files attributes, I dunno. Never had this problem.

I did some testing to see if the "stereo sound setting not being saved" problem happens with the ZSNES Windows WIP(latest WIP).
I quick-formatted the hard ,and installed Windows 98SE. I then tested the latest Windows WIP with DirectX 9.0b to see if the stereo sound setting is saved. Then after that I quick-formatted the hard drive again and loaded on Windows ME(with the same DirectX version and ZSNES WIP) to see if the problem still existed.
I've found out that the problem exists when you use the latest ZSNES Windows WIP on Windows 98 SE and Windows ME. I don't know if it happens with Windows 98(original), 2000 or XP.
My system specs are:
400 Mhz Pentium 2 with MMX
64 MB RAM
40 GB hard drive
ATI Rage LT-Pro video card with 8MB RAM
DirectX 9.0b
Windows 98 SE(at the moment)
