Super Mario RPG Hard Mode Hack
Hell yeah! I was looking for this hack and I happened to stumble upon it. Might be old news, but anyways. Here is the super mario rpg hard mode hack. Hope you all enjoy it. http://s3phir0th115.homeip.net:8080/stu ... ixBeta.zip
Oh yeah, it's not pre-patched. So you'll have to Lunar IPS patch it.

Is anybody else having trouble getting this rom hack to properly work? Everytime I do it the very first enemy I encounter kills me in one hit (doing between 80-160 damage or so), and he stays there and keeps on slashing with some kind of sword even though I'm dead (until finally disappearing off the screen, but the screen stays on the battle screen and nothing happens). This is the first enemy you encounter when you start the game (In Bowser's Castle). I also notice that it's going to happen because the enemies don't "fall" straight down onto the battle arena like they normally do. Instead, they seem to be slowly lowered but never reach the ground (it seems like they're floating there in mid-air).
Anyhow, I was just wondering if anybody else had trouble getting this rom hack to work. I've tried it with multiple versions of ZSnes and Snes9X. My rom is Super_Mario_RPG_-_Legend_of_the_Seven_Stars_(U)_[!].scm.
Can anybody help me out?
Thanks for your time and sorry for bumping a somewhat old thread.

Hmm...could you tell me which version rom you're using (I don't think this is against forum rules, right? I'm not asking for the rom itself)?franpa wrote:works fine here, mallow starts with the "shocker" spell instead of that lightning one if anyone else is after some obvious early confirmation that the hack is applied.
Hmmm... was it the same version?DancemasterGlenn wrote:Where did you find that? I saw it up on demonoid a long time ago (the author had uploaded it) and I told him why his game was crashing in newer versions of zsnes. Then demonoid went down, and thought it's back up (joy), that torrent seems to be gone...
try patching the smc file not scmAzure wrote:Super_Mario_RPG_-_Legend_of_the_Seven_Stars_(U)_[!].scm.
or
try another patch tool:
smart ips
snes tool (snestl12.exe)
lunar ips (failed on me sometimes)
or
rename the ips file like the smc file (except extention) and zip them both (unpatched smc and ips) into 1 file. open then the zip with zsnes (zsnes will do the patch itself but only in memory)
and talking about hard mode -> secret of mana hard mode exists too ^^
Whoops, I meant .smc (I just finished a computer science course that was based on the Scheme language, so my brain is still used to so many .scm extensions. Sorry!).muxum wrote:try patching the smc file not scmAzure wrote:Super_Mario_RPG_-_Legend_of_the_Seven_Stars_(U)_[!].scm.

I found a pre-patched rom and that version seems to work just fine (of course, it still has flickering text glitch, but that's normal for all versions of Mario RPG and ZSnes, right?).
Thanks for the help everybody.

I believe so. The torrent is actually back up on demonoid now, so if anyone wants to check they can.Metatron wrote:Hmmm... was it the same version?DancemasterGlenn wrote:Where did you find that? You may not care, but myself and several other boaters/zboard members contribute to a site we launched dedicated specifically to making games very difficult:
http://playithardcore.com
Mario RPG was way too easy, perhaps a functional patch like this could make it worth playing through again
