If you live in the US, at least, I would recommend against this. Unless you have some other way of building your credit history, you're going to have a very difficult time with any type of renting or financing (like renting an apartment, buying a car/house...).BCprogger wrote:(I REFUSE TO EVER OWN A CREDIT CARD! dude I even tried to apply for a credit card once before, and they denied me due to no credit.
the bank offered a secure credit card, but with that, I'd have better luck just saving the money. (yeah I put money in a secure saving account that I otherwise have no access to unless I don't pay the bill for whatever reason) kinda counterproductive, eh?
and everyone wonders why the economy is so recessed..

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

That sucks. Are you still young enough to get one co-signed with one of your parents?adventure_of_link wrote:dude I even tried to apply for a credit card once before, and they denied me due to no credit.

a credit card with a small limit, so you don't spend to much, and be able to pay off your balance, there by increasing your credit score?adventure_of_link wrote:dude I even tried to apply for a credit card once before, and they denied me due to no credit.

odditude: my parents wouldn't fool with that shit
funkyass: I made $14k last year. and yes, it does increase your credit score, but the thought of having to put your own money in it twice (once to increase your limit and again to pay off said limit).. eh..

Ah no, I think what Funkyass was saying is getting a card in your range, let's say a 500 dollar limit, and instead of paying with debit cards or in cash, use your credit card. At the end of the month, or whenever you have to pay your credit card, pay what you bought during said month. Over time, your credit will increase.adventure_of_link wrote:odditude: my parents wouldn't fool with that shit

The key here is don't use the credit card for more that you can afford. You don't need to place money for the limit, you might have debit and credit cards confused.
*Sometimes I edit my posts just to correct mistakes.
I refuse to own a credit card because it is essentially just a "loan" for the month. like, "here, we'll let you spend up to this much, just pay us back". problem is, they have to make money somehow, and from the looks of things, they're quite successful at it... I'm sure it's just that small unfortunate margin of people who seem to forget that they will have to pay for their purchases at some point, as well as the privilege of paying with the credit card (service/late fees).
The fact that I can't build a credit history doesn't irk me in the slightest. I prefer not to leave a paper trail anyway, and it's the whole premise behind the thing. Although I have to admit that paying 52$ a month for my "free" health care in canada seems a bit strange as well. Damn governments.
Maybe I'll get one at some point but right now I really don't need or want one. I know far too many people that seem to collect the damn things, and actually pay off one card with another. Now THAT is counterproductive, unless of course the one you're paying off has a higher interest rate. Or they page through their wallet, trying 10 or 20, until they finally get one that's approved.
