Official Bug Topic

Please post about ANY bugs you can find in ZSNES 1.42. This includes well-known bugs and glitches.

These bugs will all be posted on Bugzilla, so please take a quick look and see if its an already reported and known bug.

Also, please check the old ZSNES Bug Tracker to make sure that its not there either (it will take a while to transfer all of the known bugs to Bugzilla)

NOTE: This topic is NOT for feature requests, 2-player netplay is NOT a bug, and niether is not having 52000Hz sound.

Please post in the following format

Game Name
Type of bug
ZSNES Version that you tested it on(port)
Your OS, and any other info you can get on your system

Description of the bug.

NSRT output

Also, if the bug cannot be seen within the first minute of gameplay, we need to have a savestate, if you don't have any kind of hosting, you can send them to ipher1@gmail.com

For Example.

I posted this on the previous board, but might as well post again.

Game Name: Super Bomberman

Type of bug: The "B" of battle game in Super Bomberman's main menu is half cut off in all versions of ZSNES including all WIPs inc. 10/19. Works perfectly in Snes9x and Super Sleuth. This may or may not affect other games. NSRT output:

Well, I posted about this game just before the last board "crash", and since I found a couple of new bugs I thought of adding it again:

Game Name: Traverse - Starlight & Prairie

Type of Bug: Several bugs, I wonder if the dump is actually good :?

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: traverse.smc
       Name: TRAVERSE Company: Banpresto
     Header: SWC Bank: HiROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: Normal + Batt ROM: 32 Mb
    Country: Japan Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0
   Checksum: Good 0x7B0D CRC32: B5113CCB
--------------------------Database--------------------------
Name: Traverse - Starlight & Prairie
Country: Japan Version: 1.0
Port 1: Gamepad Port 2: Gamepad
Bug 1: The game freezes at the intro sequence, you have to skip it by pressing Start at the Pandora Box screen, the game freezes in both the latest WIP and Super Sleuth, although it didn't on ZSNES 1.36.

Bug 2: The title screen has a few gfx errors with the new GFX Engine.

Bug 3: In one of the houses at the first town there is a who doesn't appear, although if you disable the first and second bg layers you can see it, although it is badly drawn (this isn't fixed with the old GFX engine, and it happens in both ZSNES 1.36 and Super Sleuth too). Here are a couple of screenshots:

All layers shown:

Layer 1 and 2 disabled:

Should I post a savestate for this last bug?

Chou Mahou Tairiku Wozz
Sprite Priority problem most likely.
ZSNESW 10/19 WIP

This bug has been in ZSNES as long as I can remember.
In battles, the cursor appears behind the enemy as well as the damage inflicted. On the real SNES, this is supposed to appear on top of the enemy.

Bomberman confirmed, with J E and U ROMs.

Traverse - Bug 1: it doesn't seem to actually freeze, the graphics just aren't displayed at all... the music stills plays, and if you wait until the intro is over, it will still get to the title screen

Bug 2: there should be a background semi-transparent box behind the title, only seen in Old Gfx Engine, im guessing thats what you mean

Bug 3: couldn't find.

Lemmings: Already on the bug tracker.

will test Chou Mahou Tairiku Wozz after the OSU game :)

Now, this for once shouldn't be too hard to test on real hardware.
I seem to remember that on the original snes, during the first encounter with Gau (when Gau join Sabin and Cyan) the characters would actually be in FRONT of the text..and not behind. Or maybe that memory come from playing on zsnes  I don't know anymore.

Someone should confirm. (On the real snes)

You are right, I didn't notice that, I thought it was a freezing...

Yes, that's it

Looks like a bad palette swap of the hero's sprite. Can anyone check what's there on the real thing ?

I find more disturbing the fact of the sprite being invisible :P.

A few more bugs I recalled

Game Name: Monstania

Bug Description: The game freezes randomly due to a SPC emulation error (or at least I guess it's because of that, since the music stops playing before the freezes)

NSRT log:

Code: Select all

Port 1: Gamepad Port 2: Gamepad

Game Name: Parodius da! - Shinwa Kara Owarai he

Bug Description: The game shows corrupted graphics and ends freezing, this bug was posted by some person on the old board... and I think he said the US version doesn't crash, but I don't have it for testing.

NSRT log:

Code: Select all

Parodius da! - Shinwa Kara Owarai he confirmed, and i didn't see a US version of the ROM, only a European version, which does work.

And i only played Monstania for about 5 minutes, but there was no freezes or anything. Is this totally random? or does it only occur certain places (in battle, out of battle, ect) Also, can you get a savestate from right before it happens? (get it to freeze, press Rewind until its no longer frozen, and see if it freezes again, if it does, hit Rewind until it isn't frozen, and make a savestate)

Thanks everybody for sending in the bugs!

Well, I'm afraid the bug is totally random... and if you rewind it isn't repeated... I know it happens more often if the frameskip is rised, but that would not be too accurate when looking at it, would it? the bug _does_ happen with frameskip 0, but it's more rare to see... I think you have more chances of it happening if you attack repeatedly... but I even saw the bug with the game running without being played.

EWJ2 and Zero confirmed, I also added Daffy Duck - The Marvin Missions to the buglist, for some reason those two reminded me of that game not working :)

Madden 94: Certain situations cause the game to freeze. For instance, getting a touchdown, field goal, or getting sacked. I think it is a problem with one of the sound effects

Code: Select all

---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
       File: Madden NFL '94 (U).SWC
Name: Madden NFL '94 Company: Electronic Arts

    Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM) Version: 1.0

I haven't gotten around to playing Star Ocean yet, but the battles being too fast is often mentioned on this board. I didn't see it listed on the bug tracker and thought maybe it should.

On the subject of Monstania, I haven't actually seen the game or just the music freeze without my hand being on the fast forward button. It's a short game, but I still managed to play through the entire thing without freezing a single time because I was sure to never speed the game up. I just opened it again and tried freezing it two times. When I held down FF I was able to freeze the sound within a minute and the game would freeze soon after. It's never taken longer than the first fight if I hold FF down the entire time.

Not gonna confirm Madden 98 myself, since ive already confirmed 94 and NHL 94, and there was an old report of NHL 98 not working. This seems to be a bug that affects all EA Sports games, at least Madden and the NHL series.
