SATA HDD woes
Okay, just got a large (640GB) Western Digital HDD, and I hooked it up as a SATA HDD. Odd thing is, despite the fact that all the jumper settings are okay, the power supply and SATA cables are connected properly, it doesn't show up in My Computer. Heck, when XP started up, it found it as new hardware; even the Device Manager knows it's "there", but only as a logical drive. What the crap?! (BTW, it was an OEM HDD, so, it didn't come with software). BIOS even detected it with no problems, so why doesn't it show up? Do I need to format it, or what?

sigh.
there is nothing wrong.
right click on the my computer icon, select manage.
go find and open "disk management" in the storage tree.
find your unallocated space. right click. select new partition.
yadda yadda yadda.

The last time I bought a hard drive, it didnt come with instructions and a CD. I don't think it even came with screws. It was in a static bag, wrapped with bubble wrap. In a box.Gil_Hamilton wrote:Didn't this drive come with instructions and a CD?
Curse you newegg.

<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Okay then, that explains that...
Still, it doesnt matter. I still had a seagate disk from my other seagate drive (I did buy a seagate btw), and even still, it was going in a Linux machine and I know how to setup drives in Linux.
