STATE 4 TOO OLD (HELP)
I somehow managed to lose my saved states while attempting to update the files on my jump drive. I managed to use a recovery program to find and restore my missing save state. However, when I try to load it I get the following error:
STATE 4 TOO OLD
Please help. I was more then halfway through shadowrun w/ all stats maxed but body & magic.
Thanks,
-Hellrazer

If the file is corrupt, that won't make a difference.Agozer wrote: Learn to use in-game saves.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

It could not possibly be from an older version, because I only have one version. The in-game saves have been even less reliable for me. Shadowrun has 2 slots, but only seems to remember one of them. The file is obviously corrupt somehow. I was looking for something a little more constructive. Does anybody have any experience manually editing saved states?

It almost sounds like you have a bad ROM from less reputable romsites if it isn't saving properly.Hellrazer wrote:It could not possibly be from an older version, because I only have one version. if zsnes says "checksum bad" when you play the game then don't expect anything to work at all, unless it's a translation, in which case make sure the original rom says "checksum ok". other than that, if you erased the savestate off the flash drive, then wrote data to it, it probably overwrote where the savestate was, thus corrupting it. your program then recovered the data as it found it, with random shit like gay porn jpgs and spit out a zs4 file. next time learn how to use a computer and you won't be crying to us.
best chance now would be to find where the .srm data is stored in snes ram, and copy that section out of what's left of the savestate into a .srm file, and be sure to fix the checksum. good luck with that.
p.s. things like this also happen when you use cheat codes.

what if it happens to be some game where it didn't use s-ram?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Ok let me breakdown how stupid/ignorant I am. I installed ZSNES on my 4gig flash drive so I could play it on the public computers at the UTK library. I did that for a couple days no problem. Then on the weekend I decided it would be better to play of my C drive. So, I copied the whole folder that ZSNES was in from my flash drive to my C drive. Then I played off the C drive for the whole weekend (it would only keep up with one in-game save though) and decided to update the flash version so I copied the C drive ZSNES to the flash drive. Much to my horror I realized afterward that even though I was playing off the C drive copy it was still saving to flash drive. Which means that I overwrote my saves on the flash.
I guess the recovery was unsuccessfully because it had already been overwritten & the file is FUBAR. My lesson learned is to make sure I know exactly where ZSNES is storing my save states. From here with Shadowrun since I was less then an hour away from having all my stats maxed out I will try to use game genie codes to give me a ton of karma so I can restore my stats, then just run through the game as fast as I can to catch up. Problem is the game freezes every time I try to load it after saving it w/ game genie codes. I tried using the "FIX" button in the cheat dialog box. After the game would start, but the cheats were not there.
Thanks for the input guys,
-Hellrazer

Both ROMS are legit, make sure your not using the BETA version as that could be why the 2nd save slot fails, also could be why the cheats are less reliable.
whenever saving you should disable cheats and enter a new area/level then save (to remove the cheats effects).
