Thanks. The file is supposed to go in "X:/Regen/SRAM" right? Lemme try it out...

Edit: Don't know what I'm doing wrong....I specified where the Regen SRAM folder was, renamed it and put the file in there, loaded up the ROM and it's not there! What the crap? Yet you say it works on yours!? How in the h***!?

No, the SRM file doesn't work in Regen, but does in Kega Fusion or Gens. For some reason, it can't read or use the SRM file from either emulator.

Deathlike2, that's what I meant. And King of Chaos, I thought the .SRAM was for Regen (I sure screwed that up)!

It is, but it doesn't work. Try it in Kega and see if it works. ;)

Yep, but not Regen. Not exactly sure why though.

I wish I knew, too, but it all depends on what's on AamirM to do list.

Hi,

I was looking at the SRAM issue and fount out what was causing it. SRAM should work in any game except Sonic 3 & Knuckles/Phantasy Star 4/Story of Thor. These games require special SRAM handling which is not present Regen right now. SRAM is mapped above 0x200000(which clashes with ROM) and a special register at 0xA130F0 which enables/disables it. I didn't knew Sonic 3 & Knuckles used it. But it will take a few minutes to add this support :) . If SRAM is not working in some other game then please report.

stay safe,

AamirM

Got access to that Pentium 3 PC and tried again. Used the game Robocop Vs The Terminator(Damn good game, actually. a lot better than you'd think it would be). I couldn't get the FPS down below 60. >.>

Also, I found several bugs. On 32 bit color, it wouldn't display the messages or FPS properly. It displays them as blue garbled text.

hq4x causes Regen to crash. It doesn't like hq3x much either. hq3x will either crash or not actually display anything.

The system it was running on has a GeForce FX5200 using the 94.24 version drivers.

OH! Okay, yeah, let me try it on other games...

Edit: On a side note, just wanted to tell ya the Low Pass Filter works great!

Edit 2:Games and savestates that don't crash Regen 0.93 beta:

*Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (U)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Sonic the Hedgehog (U)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Castlevania Bloodlines (U)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Sparkster (U)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Vectorman (U)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Contra 4 Hard Corps (J)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)
*Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition (E)[!] (Both paused/unpaused work)

Note: These are not all the games I have, but randomly chosen.

Ah excellent! Are you going to compile a test build to see if it works for everyone else? I'd be glad to test. ;) I noticed last night the SRAM file size for Sonic3K was bigger than other normal SRAM files.

That may explain why it doesn't load in Regen, but yeah, I'd love to use a test build!

This is from the Regen readme file...

Emulator messages appear corrupted. Would you please fix it?
------------------------------------------------------------

This is not a problem with Regen. This is a problem with NVidia Forceware 93.71 drivers.
You have four choices to fix this problem:

* Update the drivers.
* Run Regen using Superfast rendering mode.
* Set desktop depth to 16 BPP.
* Turn off the messages from the "Misc" menu.

hq4x causes Regen to crash. It doesn't like hq3x much either. hq3x will either crash or not actually display anything.
Again, the answer is in the readme file...

Missing:
--------
* Plugins that scale the output by 2 are only supported

But they shouldn't crash. Hmmm, for the stability of the program itself, crashes due to using plugins that scale past the output of 2, and without the fonts folder present should be addressed/prevented in some manner. :)

I'm thinking what could be done until plugins past 2X can be added, is to prevent the loading of such plugins when they're selected, with some kind of dialog which states the plugin(s) aren't support, then which the program will revert back to the default plugin, thus preventing that crash. For the crash due to the fonts folder and contents, could include the makefont function within the program itself, and have it create the two default font files, problems solved, right?

Nice to hear that. Did you used some plugin too? And yes, the FPS/messages get grabbled but only in 32bit/Superfast rendering mode. Otherwise they should appear normal so I recommend to turn it off. Since Regen only support 2x scalers atm so 3x and 4x scalers are failing.

I'll post a test build if I add some more things. I don't want the emu news websites to pick it up since there is nothing major. BTW, thanks to both for your testing. I appreciate it a lot :) .

No problem, glad to be a help. :D If I find anything else worth mentioning, I'll mention it here or on the SpritesMind forums. :)

Which reminds me, I think I'll update the homepage a little with Adam's fixed readme/history files on the site. :)

It's not in the readme unfortunately, but I didn't mention it. The questions that were asked are in this very thread.

I used the hq3/4x plugins I found in a plugins archive on the kega forums(As I Saw Regen uses the Kega Fusion plugins format). I had no idea Regen didn't support 3x/4x/higher scalers. Ah, well. I'll try a few other tests to see if I can get it under 60 fps. I'll try a different game, too.

I thought Robocop Vs. The Terminator(Again, it's a really good action game. I recommend anyone who likes side scrolling games where you shoot the shit out of things to try it) was more of a stressful on the hardware. I guess something like Sonic 3D Blast(The end of good Sonic games. :( Well, OK, Sonic Adventure was pretty good.) when I get ahold of that PC.

I updated the site a little bit (added the new readme, but I found a typo Adam missed ), and here's a newer fixed readme file with one typo fixed which can be downloaded here.

Since I'm a nice person and want to help people get it working right off the bat, and some people are having issues with it crashing without the fonts folder and because of rendering plugins past 2X, I made little RAR files containing everything you'd need to run Regen perfectly.

Included in these 3 files;

-Latest Regen test executable (normal version, the Core 2 optimized version and the version with the sound skipping issue fixed).
-Required Fonts folder and makefile executable, to prevent crashes and allow you to customize the fonts.
-Updated Readme and History files.
-Updated Cheats files, for those whom could use them.
-All working rendering plugins 2X and below.

Download: Regen v0.93 (Normal)
Download: Regen v0.93 (Core 2 Optimized)
Download: Regen v0.93 (Sound Skipping Fixed)

Enjoy and hope this helps people!

P.S. I might do the same with v0.85 if there's enough interest.

Speaking of which, I just tested it for the fun of it, and the sound for it is different sounding than the real hardware and Kega Fusion (with SuperHQ on).

You can go to the Sound Test from the options screen of the game to test and compare. :)

Some notable music/sounds to test in Robocop Vs. The Terminator's Sound Test which Regen sounds different from Kega (and real hardware, since I know Kega gets it right)...

-FLIGHT TERM
-INDUSTRIAL STR
-UNDERGROUND
-PLASMAGUN
-ROCKET LAUNCHR
-FM EXPLOSION
-THUNDER
-SOFT EXPL 1
-LOUD EXPL 1
-EXPL 4
-EDGUN
-FLAME THROWER
-ELECTRIC SHOCK
-SPOTLIGHT BRK
-TV NOISE
-KILLER LAZER
-MENU SELECT
-GENERIC LAZER

Play the game some, and see if you can spot any differences... I can. :)

It's been so long since I've played my cart(Dead Genesis for the lose. :(), I barely remember the sounds. What little I heard while playing the first level sounded fine to me. I only played for a few minutes, though... I'll test it later.
