Welll, there's Tetris DX on the GBColor. It's sort of the GameBoy...Johan_H wrote:... Was there really more than one GB version?Franky wrote:actually I take back what i said.
In addition to the original gameboy version, my other favourite tetris version is the one that was on http://www.miniclip.com
I'm not sure if it's still on there though; might be though.
I think I've heard of Tetris Attack for the GB, but that hardly counts as has been said in this thread already.
Favorite tetris version...

Full colour or just with random pallet switching? Some later GB games did this when played on a GBC for some reason (Pokémon Yellow for example), I'm pretty sure it was all intentional.
There was an actual Color version of Wario Land 2 too though.

I play games on gambatte aswell as on the real thing; there's an option to change colour palette and if I set colours for warioland 2 that make it look on gambatte like on my gba in a certain level on the game, when I then get to the next stage, the colours are wrong again; this doesn't happen when I play warioland 2 on my gba (colours always look correct), so it must be "changing" the palette... is that what you mean by "random palette switching"? If so, yes, warioland 2 performs random palette switching on my gba.Johan_H wrote:Full colour or just with random pallet switching? Probably. If there is still only four colours at a time (possibly eight if it made separate sprite and BG palettes, I'm not sure if any game did this) the game is not really "in colour".Franky wrote:the palette... is that what you mean by "random palette switching"?
Pokémon Yellow switches pallet when you come to a new town, I don't really know about the other ones.
This is probably something built in to the game, like the Super GB stuff.
EDIT: I just checked, and the non-Color version of WL2 doesn't seem to change the pallet when played on a GBC.
Whatever I guess...

Pokemon Blue/Red DID, however, do palette switching on the Super Gameboy.I.S.T. wrote:Pokemon Blue did not do random color switching on my GBC... I think the GBC had a preset for it. Seriously.
It turned everything blue, mind you, but that can't be a frigging coincidence.
Crudely, at that. You could hear the "snap" from the palette change, just like if you hit the button to change from a predefined palette to a custom one.
GBColor surprises me at times.
I mean, it has a palette seemingly designed for Qix. The "negative" palette(B+right) is PERFECT for the game.
Given it completely sucks for everything else, I have trouble believing it was an accident, even though Qix uses the default red-background-blue-sprites palette.
As I understand it, there's a possibility of TWELVE colors. There's two separate sprite palettes as well as the background palette, and all 3 can be colorized independently. Since you don't TECHNICALLY have to have a transparent color...Johan_H wrote:Probably. Several of the GBC default palettes use two color sets, one for all sprites and a second for the background. You can actually see this in action on Tetris, since the blocks cease being sprites and become background once they settle into place.

I actually liked how with the GBC black/grey palette, they got the contrast right..
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Are you sure? I thought you could have 2 sprite pallets with 4 colours of which one had to be used as alpha. I'm not at all certain though.Gil_Hamilton wrote:As I understand it, there's a possibility of TWELVE colors. I know, what I meant was that I'm not aware of any game that did both occasional pallet switching and used different pallets for sprites and BG, since I remember Pokémon Yellow as using the same for both.Gil_Hamilton wrote: Several of the GBC default palettes use two color sets, one for all sprites and a second for the background. And the smear. Oh god, the smear...I.S.T. wrote:I HATED having to adjust the damn contrast on my old GB back in the day. Fuck that contrast switch, fuck it to hell.
I'd like to see an emulator that emulated that shitty ass screen, actually. It'd be weird having everything being green and black...
I'm not either, honestly.Johan_H wrote:Are you sure? I thought you could have 2 sprite pallets with 4 colours of which one had to be used as alpha. Ah. Presuambly, at that point it became easier to drop the palettization mess go to true color mode.
