Star Ocean Patch issues
Whenever I try to play Star Ocean using the patch the game either freezes on the third loading screen or if I hit start to get past the loading screens all I get is a black screen with music playing. I used NSRT to scan the rom and this is what the scan shows:
---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: Star Ocean.smc
Name: Star Ocean
Company: Enix
Header: NSRT
Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: None
SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: S-DD1 + Batt
ROM: 48 Mb
Country: Japan
Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 120ns (FastROM)
Revision: 1.0
Checksum: Good 0x13B8
Game Code: ARFJ
---------------------------Hashes---------------------------
CRC32: 3DBDFDBF
MD5: D686BA6DF942084216393ADA009126DC
--------------------------Database--------------------------
Name: Star Ocean
Country: Japan
Revision: 1.0
Port 1: Gamepad
Port 2: Gamepad
Genre 1: RPG
Genre 2: Semi-Action
------------------------NSRT Header-------------------------
Version: 2.2
Port 1: Gamepad
Port 2: Gamepad
I'm using Snes9x v1.51 any ideas on what I can do to fix the problem?

Remove the NSRT header.
This patch does not need any header. The header is causing the patching to produce something that doesn't work.
Besides, the NSRT headers are for games that use special devices, not special chips. Don't add headers when they are not needed.

Nah, the real problem was the patching format. If only we could get everyone to start using Nach's XOR format, nobody would ever have to have this header vs no-header discussion again.Quagmire wrote:The header was indeed the problem it works now. Thanks

You just have to practice.Agozer wrote:That'll be the last time I'm going to post anything very late at night while slightly under the influence.

You might want to keep them twinkies and the ZBoard bible nearby, just in case. I'd rather not turn into some mongrel tard, having crossed the threshold briefly now.
Learn how to channel the n00b, to focus it, to control it.
I actually used to be really good at faking n00b posts.
