PS2 Controller wont work(ZSNES doesnt register the buttons?)

Gamepad acting up? Keyboard not responding properly? Can't get that other user to work? Read and post about it here.

PS2 Controller wont work(ZSNES doesnt register the buttons?)

Post by Retne »

I've used this setup before but I recently formatted and came back and grabbed the latest version of ZSNES. (If that didn't spell it out for you I'm using version 1.51 of zsnes and I'm running WinXP updated all the way)

I have a Playstation 2 to USB converter rigged up and working outside of ZSNES. When I go to Input the buttons on the controller though it doesnt register that I pressed anything. I can press up on the D-pad all day and it wont register it. I ten either have to press Escape or press a button on my keyboard.

What could the problem be? It used to work just fine on my old system. Any help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I figured I would add I've calibrated the controller plenty of times and zsnes still refuses to recognize any press of a button on my controller. If it helps diagnose the problem I tried using snes9x and it was able to see me pressing the buttons and whatnot but once I get into game its not calibrated properly. It acts like I'm holding down Right+Down on the D-Pad and there seems to be nothing I can do about it on that emu either. :/ Hopefully someone out there in the know can help me out. (I generally find my questions on strange forums go unanswered though so I wont be surprised if I get 0 response)

nice bait at the end. and if you'd lurked for ANY amount of time, you'd know that these guys are pretty helpful and knowledgeable.

all i can advise is to make sure the the controller is plugged and recognized by windows before starting zsnes.

also if you know that posting questions on "strange" forums get unanswered for you, why post at all?

barring that, learn to have some patience. this is a forum, not a 24/7 tech support line.

that being said, did you click the keyb/joystick option in the controller config THEN config your buttons?
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

What's the converter's model? Note that ZSNES can be very picky with some USB converters (i.e. refuses to detect them at all no matter what you do).

whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Sorry to grave dig, but I am having this exact same issue, so I'll pick up where this fella left off, but with a lot more grace and tact :)

I've got a Super Dual Box Pro PS2-USB converter. I've calibrated my controller via Windows a number of times, and it registers button presses properly. When I enter ZSNES, it doesn't register button presses from my controller, despite having selected Keyboard/Gamepad as the input type.

I have not tested it on SNES9x, because I've used their emu before, and I never liked it. I've used ZSNES for years, and would prefer to continue doing so.

If it helps, my controller is being seen by Windows as 'HID-compliant game controller'.

Looking forward to your response :)

Perhaps a stupid suggestion, but have you tried using Joy2Key?
I got the same adapter from Lik-sang (before they got killed off)
and I use Joy2Key to set a profile so that pressing a button on the
gamepad acts like pressing a letter or arrow on the keyboard.
