Top five ways Nintendo ruined Mario
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

Mario in a boot.
Mario in a raccoon suit.
Mario with a cape.
Mario riding a dinosaur.
If Bee Mario is a WTF to you then you've a been living in cave since you where born.
Which explains a lot.
These top x lists that have sprouted up excessively from these "gaming journalism" of sites pretty much proves that there is no such thing as "gaming journalism".
They've already scrapped into the barrel for the sake of changing the site daily.

They cannot ruin Mario by making him do random stuff since his very purpose is bringing a famous face to new (and old) activities.
When they have a new game concept, they look at their list of main characters and just take some. The public is familiar with the characters already, just have to get used to the new game itself.
Would Super Mario Kart have been that successful with brand-new characters ? And so on.
From time to time they do add new characters to their list, see Wario... from time to time. Too much would also be bad.
Luigi GREW into the desperate-to-do-like-his-bro comic relief. He's not getting out of there anytime soon (and even when he does, it's in a sort of pathetic way - see the various RPGs and Luigi's Mansion for that).

Ok, that list is incredibly bad. There have been Mario spinnoffs since the dawn of the NES. The princess getting captured all of the time has always been the premise of the Mario games. What do they suggest should be the plotline? If you make fun of bee Mario, why not make fun of Mario 3? You can't deny that Super Mario Galaxy is one of the great games released this decade, and I thought it was rather cute. Luigi... who cares. And a voice, again who cares? Nintendo has not ruined Mario, and the majority of games that Mario is in are excellent (something that can't be said for Sonic the Hedgehog).

Sunshine was far from bad, but I read a lot of players sucked at it.
Never had any trouble with it, and the hardest thing of all (the secret 8 red coins mission with the throwing piantas that you had to angle and time properly) took me like 5 tries.

man, these people obviously never understood the spirit of mario, and have turned away from it's goodness, how sad. Also congrats AoL on the soon to be Wii, there are a few keepers on there. Next year seems to be looking better for 3rd party titles (which was rather slim this year)
anywho, basically the people who wrote that list are insecure adults unable or unwilling to embrace something whimsical or that would appear "silly"
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
At least for those kinds of game where I'm extremely good at.
The secret is a lot of willpower, an unhealthy diet and robot circuits in your brain.

I haven't even explained what's the best way to work up equipment for disgaea 1 (and 2 is even better with the double kills + item assembly), dood.
Makai kingdom is also delicious numbercrunching despite the lack of item levelling. And levelling in Soul cradle is quite fun if repetitive.
Probably the biggest advantage right there: if you can't cope with repetitiveness, you can't really do anything with those.
But that sort of stuff doesn't force one to rock at platform games. That's a different set of skills altogether.
*hugs his 215K score in sonic adventure 2 cosmic wall hard mode*
