I've set up an HTPC where I like to run a lot of emulation (this has the nice advantage in that it's basically set up from the outset for running on a TV and feels more like a real console.) Since it's not exactly optimal to control the system via keyboard or mouse, I got someone's old MCE remote and set up HIP so that I can control most things with it. Basically HIP can be set so that when I press buttons on my remote the PC will do things such as close the program.
This has worked just fine for me in every single game or program except ZSNES. When I press the button that sends escape or the button that sends ALT+F4, nothing happens... ZSNES responds just fine to the keyboard and the mouse directly, but nothing on the remote seems to work in ZSNES. The weird thing is, I've run a lot of games (both emulation and PC games) and never had any problems with the remote in anything else...
Before anyone points it out, yes I am aware that I can map an exit hotkey to one of the gamepad buttons. Well, I'm using a PSX gamepad which is just like a SNES gamepad button-wise except for the L2 and R2 buttons, so these are really the only buttons available for doing such things (all others are mapped to the same location button on a SNES controller.) The problem is, I found out long ago that it's just too easy to bump things I don't mean to bump on rare occasions. It doesn't happen often, but all it takes is a few times here and there at bad moments to make me loose a lot... (I used to have save and restore state mapped to these buttons and I accidentally bumped the load state button all too often at bad times, loosing a LOT of time... Needless to say, an exit on those buttons would be even more troublesome most of the time.)
I suppose there isn't something I could change that might make it more apt to actually respond to the remote is there? Maybe disable its normal keyboard handling (I assume this is the culprit) so it will see what HIP sends as keypresses? Right now I'm being forced to use SNES9X which I have hated since shortly after I first found ZSNES way back in the days both ran on DOS. Well, besides the interface that I hate I have to put up with really annoying sound glitches in nearly every one of my favorite games. Apparently ZSNES's sound core is still worlds ahead of SNES9X even after all these years... The glitches are sometimes really annoying and loud so it has been driving me crazy. Since I don't use the interface on the HTPC, I don't mind that it's so bad I don't mind that, but the sound glitches are just so annoying that it's not even funny. (Ok, I admit that it probably doesn't help that I can't stand the interpolation that make games sound like I'm trying to listen while my head is immersed in water, so turning that off was one of the first things I did. I think the interpolation does smooth out the glitches a little, but I'd rather hear them than put up with the interpolation...) Is there anything I can do that won't interfere with everything else I do with that system?
Won't use remote (via HIP)

Hi,
I just came by the forum to have a look around, and I thought I might be able to help. I currently use SimKey to send key strokes through HIP. I can't remember the link from where I got it, but I did a quick Google search and found this forum with the attachment. I hope it helps, please let me know if you have success in trying it.
