what, in particular, did you not know what to do? those steps seem to be rather direct and easy to follow, so you'll need to be specific.linseed wrote:When I installed fedora, I didn't follow steps 11 through 25 on this web page because I didn't know how to do ,it, any help?

Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
Well, I tried disabling selinux, but it said access denied, I tried making the sytem grant me access, like this:odditude wrote:what, in particular, did you not know what to do? those steps seem to be rather direct and easy to follow, so you'll need to be specific.linseed wrote:When I installed fedora, I didn't follow steps 11 through 25 on this web page because I didn't know how to do ,it, any help?

Temporarily switch off enforcement
You can switch the system into permissive mode with the following command:
echo 0 >/selinux/enforce
You'll need to be logged in as root, and in the sysadm_r role:
newrole -r sysadm_r
To switch back into enforcing mode:
echo 1 >/selinux/enforce
I cop-pasted that off a web-page.
It said the newrole command didn't exist.
Then, I tried following the steps bellow, skipping 11, but nothing seemed to happen, no... "acknowledgement", from the system.
So, can anyone help me on either issue?
Also, I coulnd't do step sixteen either, and when I tried to run a system file check, it gave me this:
[root@localhost /]# fsck -pf /dev/sda2
fsck 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
/dev/sda2 is mounted.
WARNING!!! Running e2fsck on a mounted filesystem may cause
SEVERE filesystem damage.
Do you really want to continue (y/n)? yes
fsck.ext3: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sda2
/dev/sda2:
The superblock could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2
filesystem. If the device is valid and it really contains an ext2
filesystem (and not swap or ufs or something else), then the superblock
is corrupt, and you might try running e2fsck with an alternate superblock:
e2fsck -b 8193 <device>
[root@localhost /]# tune2fs -O extents,uninit_bg,dir_index /dev/sda2
tune2fs 1.41.3 (12-Oct-2008)
tune2fs: No such file or directory while trying to open /dev/sda2
Couldn't find valid filesystem superblock.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could help me...
So, is there a way to install zsnes on fedora or not?

ok, first things first. if you're given steps in numerical order, trying to skip ahead because one step has you stumped is usually a BAD idea.
as for the later steps - you didn't miss the part about booting back off the CD again, did you..?
edit: any *nix gurus feel free to correct any errors/bad advice. it's been about two and a half years since i last used linux and am likely pretty rusty.
what exactly did you do? be specific. more than likely, the file requires root access to modify... so if you wanted to modify it in gedit (for example) you'd use the gui to start gedit as a superuser or, from the terminal, linseed wrote:Well, I tried disabling selinux, but it said access denied,
Code: Select all
sudo gedit /etc/sysconfig/selinux &
definitely. you'll need the correct source tarball found here, most likely this one. You'll want to follow the compilation instructions contained within.linseed wrote:So, is there a way to install zsnes on fedora or not?

I reinstalled fedora because there was no sound, and there's still no sound. And, no, I didn't miss that part. I did everything correctly up until the part where you have to disable selinux. And everything beyond there has nothing to do with sound, so why is there no sound?odditude wrote:ok, first things first. if you're given steps in numerical order, trying to skip ahead because one step has you stumped is usually a BAD idea.

The sound thing is weird, though. There's sound when you boot up the system but there's no sound when you use zsnes, or other applications with sound. However, when I first used zsnes, the sound worked... fine. It was certainly not loud or anything, but at least it wasn't non/existant.
I installed zsnes with Dribble repositories, and everything works fine.
Is there a way to fix the sound? Or should I install some other OS?

I'm sick of Fedora. The sound never works, neither does the internet. Soon as I'm done wih earthbound, I'm either installing Ubuntu or re/installing Linpus...
Does anyone know how to intall firefox 3 and follow the rest of the steps?

Why not get it done before you finish Earth Bound? all you'd have to do is find where ZSNES keeps your saves and back-up your savelinseed wrote:I'm sick of Fedora. also, I personally hate Fedora myself. Back when I tried it on my laptop, it would kernel panic when I plug it into the wall outlet or disconnect it from the wall outlet.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

All right, that's great, I'll do it ASAP, I'll finally see for myself if Ubuntu really is as good as they say.safaribans wrote:Just install Ubuntu already, 9.04 is out, and zsnes is packaged up properly.
All your zsnes settings, save states, cheats, etc. are stored in a hidden folder in home called
.zsnes
Copy/Archive that, and you're golden.
Before I do that, can I just copy the entire Zsnes folder and the Earthbound folder for my saves, etc?
no.linseed wrote:All right, that's great, I'll do it ASAP, I'll finally see for myself if Ubuntu really is as good as they say.safaribans wrote:Just install Ubuntu already, 9.04 is out, and zsnes is packaged up properly.

you don't need to copy the program itself (and shouldn't, for that matter) because, as safaribans said, you can install it from a package (using apt/synaptic).
you DO need to copy ~/.zsnes to get your config and saves (as safaribans also stated above).
you'll need to copy your earthbound rom, definitely.
