Microsoft's New Search Engine
http://bing.com
a rebranding of live.com search engine also adding some new features, the official release is on June 3rd but apparently they JUST put the site up so you can use it now.
It is supposed to catagorize things "smarter" to help you make decisions easier, who knows if it will get any critical mass but there it is.
Here is their official video
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
Given that's not the Microsoft Way... I'm skeptical. I'd bet it's the Lunix guys pressing their worldview onto MS' products.Francis64 wrote:I've read a few pages saying that Bing is a recursive acronym for "Bing is not Google". Can anyone confirm that?
That or Word is a recursive acronym for "Word Offers Repetitive Dialogs."

well shit, this should go in Tech or General Nonsense, my bad.
yeah I like the endless scroll of video and pictures.
The main advantage seems to be their sidebar, search for images for example, then if it is a person you are looking for you can sort by head shots, full body, etc.
also they are trying to advertise teh amazingness of their shopping and travel search modes but I probably won't use them much

Bing is terrible. I might be a bit biased, but when I search for "snes" on google, Snes Central shows up in the top 10 results, while on bing, I searched through the first 30 pages of results, and it didn't even appear. How does the biggest SNES website not even come up?
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

I'm surprised no one mentioned Google Squared and Wolfram Alpha:

Wolfram Alpha will fail on pop culture because it is not a search engine. Think of it as a powerful AI that has access to an encyclopedia.
For most of us, it's just a solution waiting for a problem.
But you can do awesome stuff:

Wolfram's pretty neat. Wish I would've had that in high school.
