Controllers not being recognized

Gamepad acting up? Keyboard not responding properly? Can't get that other user to work? Read and post about it here.

Controllers not being recognized

Post by TotalBlank »

I have three USB controllers that are not being recognized. A pair of Wingman Precision's and one AXIS Pad Colors by (i).

My OS (XP Home) recognizes all controllers and their buttons, everything is fully functional, they've also worked in the past on FIFA and a few other games. The problem is I'm having a little trouble getting them to map or be recognized. I've read over 30-40+ already existing threads concerning controllers and I found a bit of information but I am still unsure.

I didn't see any information regarding the AXIS PAD Colors (it's an 8 button dual stick controller with a Mode-Set toggle in between the sticks) and the Wingman Precision is an older controller with your basic axis pad + ABXY and L+R. I'm hoping to get either one working but I'm not sure how to map the keys for a gamepad. I tried going into

Here's a screenshot of what my settings look like (I've returned them to default for the most part.

I tried selecting Keyboard/Gamepad under Device #2 but when I SET the keys, they set a second set for Keyboard. If I try to manually change the keys, none of the buttons on my controllers seem to have any input.

I'd answer if I had some advice to give you... which I don't really, so I'll just start poking around.

Do you have all three controllers plugged in at the same time? Do you have some kind of additional gamepad software installed and active (like Logitech Gaming Software)? You've also said nothing about the ZSNES version you use.

What happens if you plug one controller in, start ZSNES, click Config --> Input #1, then choose keyboard/Gamepad, click Set, and then Set Keys?

whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

Well, somehow with the little advice you managed my game controller is now fully functional, but just for future reference:

My version is 1.51 as of Jan 24th, 2007.
I was only trying to get 1 to work, plugging in one at a time.
I did not have any additional software installed at the time (both controllers are basic plug and play as far as I know).

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help, it worked on the first shot and now I'll finally be able to use my controller. The problem wasn't mapping the keys or finding where to do it, it was not knowing about going to Device #1 pressing SET on Keyboard/Gamepad and then setting the actual controller.

Thank you very much!

And I thought of that, then saw the way you emphasized SET in your first post and assumed you actually hit the SET button before the SET KEYS button.
Which was my only guess, so I left it alone.
