This is driving me nuts, no matter what I do I can't seem to get rid of the annoying crackling sound coming from the emulator. I've tried all sampling rates, fiddled with every option and it is still there. I'm at my wits end and I don't really know what else to do.
My specs are:
Windows XP
Genuine Intel (Dual Core) T2500 2.00 GHz
2 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS
Sigmatel C-Major Sound Card
Everything else seems to work fine except for the sound. Can anyone help me out?
Crackling problm, tried everything

Yeah, not much I can do on that. I would have upgraded way more than the sound card if I could have. I hope it isn't, since the sound functions perfectly fine otherwise and this is really the first time I'm noticing it. I'd hunt down drivers, but that is proving to be easier said than done as the last ones seem to be from a few years ago (now that Sigma was bought out it is a mess).
I'd like to avoid purchasing anything if I could though, since the card would just be for emulation since nothing else on my laptop is affected.

Did you ever try searching for the vendor and device I'd on google? I've found that works better than searching the generic name reported by windows. You can find this in the device manager, under properties. I find it works best to search in this format: xxxx:yyyy where xxxx is vendor and yyyy is device. You might not find a driver like that right away but you may get the actual chip name and the ability to look within a inf file to see if it supports your chip.

You could also try other emulators, e.g. SNESGT.

Well, I haven't run Windows in half a decade, but you've got the same version I used to use...
Have you tried going to Start -> System -> control panel, systems or sound I believe... And change any settings regarding buffering or Hardware acceleration? Lowering that value might solve it.
Does running
Give different audio driver options?
(i.e. zsnes -ad somedriver)

Code: Select all
