AVG limited it effectiveness when I noticed that it mysteriously deactivated by itself and I was not using a trial. ESET Security is troublesome if you forget your password and can only work if obtained by legal means. ESET works fine but at first it acts like Vista asking you for everything.

You can disable the pop-ups. Read the first page of this thread.Silensho wrote:I used AVG for a couple years until I found at this site that Avira could perform a bit better.
The only complaint I have against Avira is, as it's been stated before, the pop ups.

Here's a recent comparison of popular free and paid virus scanners. I have dropped Avira for Microsoft Security Essentials.

Re: Antivirus Software
I went through several antivirus suites (free and commercial) before I stumbled upon this one.snkcube wrote:Microsoft Security Essentials.

Why are they all trying to look really gaudy. They visually remind me of those scam/malware ones you get from Russia. What's wrong with looking clean and professional by using standard controls and stuff that integrate with other programs properly?
Maybe these people were born without that part of their brain that lets you try different things to see if they work better. --Retsupurae

That attitude is SO last century. It's all about branding and custom UI nowadays.paulguy wrote:Why are they all trying to look really gaudy. Re: Antivirus Software
And people complain about linux having Qt and GTK+. The 2 seem to integrate together much better than all of the random-ass Windows programs that all look and behave differently, and generally look way less gaudy and ugly in the process (depending on theme selected). Though I suppose this is an argument for the other thread.

Of course, that was standard in the DOS days where ZSNES started.Rashidi wrote:now that i think about it,Gil_Hamilton wrote:That attitude is SO last century.
