Help: zSNES filters (HQx4)
Hi everyone.
I'm looking for a good zSNES filters (more specifically, HQx4) and how to add/use them.
Also does anyone know what's the best video setting for Chrono Trigger?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Chrono trigger mostly has detailed graphics so you'd be better off with no filtering or linear/interpolation filter.
HQ filter I find looks best with high contrast cartoon graphics like super Mario world.

The best video settings as far as filters go is those you like best. Just try them! They're under the Filters tab in Config -> Video. The NTSC filter is what looks closest to an old TV if that's what you're after.

Think "Plugin Hell" and it makes sense. He thinks the filters are addons.grinvader wrote:am i the only one who understood his first line as "i want to add hq4x to something else, help me locate it in zsnes" and then got confused with the whole CT mess ?
I recommend the NTSC filter set to S-Video or RGB preset.
For any game, not just Chrono Trigger.

Also bare in mind that the HQxX filter options available is dependent on what resolution you use.

i never really likes NTSC filter, thats probably because i lives in PAL world.Gil_Hamilton wrote:I recommend the NTSC filter set to S-Video or RGB preset.

Yeah, we need a PAL filter optimized for the NTSC resolution >.>"

Except there's nothing interesting in a PAL filter due to it not raping the colours anyway.franpa wrote:Yeah, we need a PAL filter optimized for the NTSC resolution >.>"
pal filter is just the 20% slowdown, interpolation + 25% scanlines lawl

Re: Help: zSNES filters (HQx4)
You forgot to shift the colors because PAL operates in a different color space* and crush the image because PAL has more vertical resolution.grinvader wrote:Except there's nothing interesting in a PAL filter due to it not raping the colours anyway.franpa wrote:Yeah, we need a PAL filter optimized for the NTSC resolution >.>"

*(not sure how much of an effect this has IRL, but theoretically, PAL colors should be off slightly in a gaming context)

yea, PAL usually ended up with slightly less saturated colours. Hues were quite fine though.

I've also noticed how some colours seem to flicker a bit when switching to 60 Hz. It's hardly noticeable though, and I don't know if it's related. *shruggers*
