E3 impressions
TELL ME THEM
seems like a pretty solid show to me. new 360 SKU, right after i paid for a wireless-N adapter (on craigslist, it was cheap).
3DS seems fun. if i'm lucky, i can sell my dsi and flashcart for a profit again, and upgrade.
metal gear solid: rising
fable III
new zelda for wii
goldeneye exclusive for wii
epic mickey
this show might not have been as "mind-blowing" as last year's, but i think we've got a good year ahead of us, here.

Re: E3 impressions
I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust for Kinectimals and Nintendogs+Cats.
Re: E3 impressions
3DS looks good.
The rest I just don't care about, though I watched most of the MS and Sony presentations for entertainment (much of it is enjoyable in exactly the same way as infomercials and bad MTV shows).
Oh, and maybe Bulletstorm will be fun if there's co-op and a PC version.

Re: E3 impressions
Nintendo really put a great show. The 3DS is really an amazing piece of device. I can't believe how many companies are giving their support for it.

Re: E3 impressions
Why can no one call it a new 360 revision, model, or bundle?
Why does it always have to be a SKU? It sounds like the fandom is collectively clearing it's throat every time a new package comes out!

Re: E3 impressions
Well if you look at the non-press release photos and videos by news sites and what not, it says "Microsoft Xbox 360 S Console" on it and the contents list on the box.

too many years in retail hell, man - it never really goes away... *shudder*Gil_Hamilton wrote:Why can no one call it a new 360 revision, model, or bundle?

Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.
Re: E3 impressions
add also microsoft's love of lingo, and you get a company that consistantly abuses the term.
SKU is Stock-Keeping Unit - its a unique identifier, and really only unique to a given inventory system - tho its generally the UPC where apropriate. MS's marketing drones probably think it means Sales Kit Unit.

the term is broadly used in retail to refer to a particular item, though - it's not just ms.funkyass wrote:add also microsoft's love of lingo, and you get a company that consistantly abuses the term.

I'm aware of the meaning. It still sound stupid, and the internet keeps misusing it every time someone says MS put out a new motherboard revision.funkyass wrote:add also microsoft's love of lingo, and you get a company that consistantly abuses the term.

Re: E3 impressions
or sony, or nintendo, or canon, or nikon, or panasonic, or LG, or HTC, etc.
any revision anywhere is usually referred to as a new SKU.
as odditude stated.
i was going to try and get fancy by substituting "stated" for something else, but i'm tired.

Most revisions DON'T get new Ess Kay Yous, they continue to carry the old one.sweener2001 wrote:or sony, or nintendo, or canon, or nikon, or panasonic, or LG, or HTC, etc.

Because most retailers don't WANT to know that they have 17 copies of Rev. A, 13 of Rev. B, and 20 of Rev. C. They just want to know how many of Product Q they have.
In fact, this is a source of consumer frustration sometimes.
I know of one specific television model that was highly-regarded and had a mid-run panel change. The new revision was not very well regarded at all, and there was a good bit of frustration because there was no way to tell which revision was in a given package without opening it and setting it up to test.
Perhaps more topical, the various motherboard revisions of the 360 are unidentifiable without physically removing the system case. You can make an educated guess from manufacture date and what specific bundle it's in(most notably with the first run of Elites, which were all made with the then-new chipset), but there's no indicator of hardware revision anywhere. Not on the package, shipping crates, anywhere.
And most markets don't have a bunch of gibbering baboons adopting terminology they don't understand the proper usage of, so you won't see videophiles talking about different SSSSSKew of a TV model instead of different revisions.
I will grant Sony(SCE, anyways) and Nintendo, but veto the rest of those examples.

Re: E3 impressions
i realize what you're saying, but it's not what i was saying at all.
i was talking about how they're reported. not how a store tracks inventory. like, on tech blogs like gizmodo or engadget. revisions are constantly referred to as SKU's on those sites.

MGS Rising is to previous MGS games as RE4 is to pre-RE4.Agozer wrote:MGS: Rising ftw. Also, Vanquish.
If it aint a sneaking game, it aint MGS. From watching the trailers, Rising looks more like a hack and slash game to me.
Not that RE4 wasn't good. I hope Rising turns out to be a decent game when it comes out.
Re: E3 impressions
And that's exactly what it's going to be, at least based on the things I've heard and seen. It's about time teh cyborg ninja gets his own game, even though the suit has been donned by Grey Fox and Olga in the past.lordmister wrote: From watching the trailers, Rising looks more like a hack and slash game to me.
