GBA ROM scene shenanigans
Which reminds me, there was someone on this or another forum that had a signature that said something like "It is always better to reply to an existing topic than to post a new one." That also reminds me of the GameFAQs attitude, which was, and probably still is, that newbies cannot start their own topics until they've been posting actively for at least a week. Nor can they use the search feature at all until they've been an active poster for about a month and a half. Yes, better to reply to someone else's topic with your bullshit question in the hopes that a regular will see it and search for the answer for you. (At least, this is the way it is when searching for help with games that were leaked to the market before their release date, which is the point where GameFAQs normally allows people to post guides for said games. Everyone remember Metroid Fusion?)

A couple days? I assume that you mean you mastered the game by that point. Since, you know, Fusion was leaked to the Internets almost a full month before it was released for sale. And the best part about doing FAQs and other guides for that game was that nobody could use the Japanese release as an excuse to publish guides before the US launch, because they launched it in Japan the year after the US and EU releases. So basically, Japan, the market that doesn't care about Metroid nearly as much as the rest of the world, got a bug fixed release with even better game ending artwork.
Hey, maybe we should split this discussion off into a newer topic, and open it up to normal people responding to it? As if the topic would get any more traffic that way, what with this forum being nearly dead as of late.

Re: ZSNES for Intel Mac ready for consumption!
Good idea.
Also, 'better' is largely subjective. They only added new pics for the various difficulties.
For those who're too lazy to find out...
US/EU ending checks:
JP ending checks:
Zero mission introduced the low% pics, which is also arguably better.
AS IF, REAL MEN ONLY CARE ABOUT 100% :3
maybe the 100% map wasn't hint enough of that ? also, zero mission, not fusion.kode54 wrote:A couple days? I assume that you mean you mastered the game by that point.
Metroid is indeed much better recieved in the western markets. For some reason. Which bugs got fixed, if you remember ?Since, you know, Fusion was leaked to the Internets almost a full month before it was released for sale. Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
Feh. I think they should've kept it at time-check only. Anything beyond that is it's own reward.
I suppose it lets you prove that they DID beat RoboRidley with that few missiles, and thus that it's technically possible, but... feh.
As far as GameFAQs and Fusion goes... all I remember about it is that someone asked for the "story so far" since they'd never played a Metroid game. I more-or-less text-dumped the manuals, including the blurb in the NES manual about Samus being a cyborg. Everyone flipped the hell out, and cue flame war.
By the time the game ACTUALLY came out and the Fusion manual ALSO said cyborg, I didn't care enough to go stir trouble up.

It's too bad that Visual Boy Advance is not that compatible with a Dual shock 3 using Motionjoy... It's a pain to map the buttons. But yeah I remember the times when Visual Boy Advance was the thing and ROMs where released before they where on the stores. I like both GBA Metroid games very much because they where a continuation of the Super Metroid legacy on the SNES. (Haven't played Another M yet.)
Yes I know that my grammar sucks!
Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
You can mess with the button mappings in motionjoy, right?
Also, I meant to include quotes around "better" for the ending pictures, since some weeaboos whined about not getting that shit in the US release.
As for bugs, I doubt they changed anything, but it's possible. I only suggested the possibility.
Now, Minish Cap, there was a silly release schedule. Yurop before Murcah?

Meh, if those games are rape, then what is Other M? That game was HORRIBLE, and it destroyed the story even more.By continuation, you mean rape, right?
Save yourself the trouble and stay away forever.(Haven't played Another M yet.)

Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
Yep but the problem is when you try to map them on the emulator. For some reason let's say square is 1 and you press square it will show another random number making mapping almost impossible.kode54 wrote:You can mess with the button mappings in motionjoy, right?
And yes Minish Cap when many ended it before anyone could.

Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
That happened with a lot of GBA games, actually. Off the top of my head, Megaman Zero 3 is an example of that as well.kode54 wrote:Now, Minish Cap, there was a silly release schedule. Yurop before Murcah?

I dunno, I refuse to play it. I'm working on resurrrecting Gunpei Yokoi as a battle cyborg just so he can storm the Nintendo headquarters and show Sakamoto how it's done again.

Then it sends Samus into a nervous breakdown, her power suit shuts off, and she curls up into a fetal position until Honorable Man-san jumps in, slaps her across the face, and tells her to get back in the kitchen.grinvader wrote:Gil_Hamilton wrote:I dunno, I refuse to play it.

Then the Easter*backspace*Ridley Bunny kills him dead.

Ahahaha, not evenGil_Hamilton wrote:Then the Easter*backspace*Ridley Bunny kills him dead.
oh wait, mad spoilers. oops. forget what you read.
yeah, fuck you too :)
aaaaaanyway, the pathetic nervous breakdown is a bit puke-inducing, but she gets better eventually.
Not saying the game is the best thing that ever happened to metroid, but it only mangled the deep stuff of the main character instead of fucking the continuity further up. I'll take that and be happy with it.

Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
Even if you could excuse that, the gameplay wasn't even good. Most bosses you had exactly .1 seconds to swtich to missle mode, find your cursor, lock on, and fire a missle before you got blasted. No worries, think really hard and you will recover! And oh yeah, I stared at the screen at one point for 45 MINUTES trying to let me continue, and it turns out the pile of green slime is what I needed to look at, despite the fact I DID look at it several times but didn't trigger it somehow.grinvader wrote:aaaaaanyway, the pathetic nervous breakdown is a bit puke-inducing, but she gets better eventually.

Bah, I could go on, but at this point I won't. It was a failed experiment, we throw out the game and never speak of it again, going back to either classic 2d or the awesome 3d of the prime games, and hopefully with a developer in a region where metroid games actually sell. Hopefully everyone at Nintendo sees this as well.
Did you enjoy the game grin, or are you just playing devil's advocate?

Re: GBA ROM scene shenanigans
I like a lot of games (most of those I own, essentially - the 'most' here is for my rare mistakes). I didn't "like" it as much as, say, super metroid, but I had fun and that's pretty much all that matters to me.
Though, can't say I had any stuckage like you describe or found any boss hard. I killed most of them out of base damage and not using the fancy maneuvers, as well. They didn't really last long enough for me to set that up, even in hard. Can't say I'm a good aim, but maybe I am ?
Anyway, less frustration helps make games more fun.
Also, weeeeeeeeee speedbooster
I can't dislike a game with that in.
I'm very used to storylines being less than stellar, plot twists you can see coming 5 miles ahead (sometimes less - I actually smelled ridley coming exactly as he popped out in geothermal), predictable tactics (bomb the queen's belly ? come on guys, i played that other one too) and so on. I did enjoy the references (like the magma level dropping after killing some mobs...) and I love the biological growth background they gave ridley (so cuuuuute awwwwwrrrghh my faaaace).
It's not like that game prevented another, potentially way better game from reaching uberawesome status by leeching it of all the cash it had, now is it ? ¬_¬
